The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

Is anyone else particular about coffee mugs? I can't start my early morning highway drives without hot black coffee in my mug (and some good music, of course). Show your mugs here! And for best results, top it up again with coffee from McDonald's ! Just love McD coffee's taste & aroma, and their outlets are on all the popular highways.

Here is my driving collection:

The first one on top was a gift from my brother. By Mercedes-Benz and engineered just like their cars. Has t-h-i-c-k glass construction with a black leather wrap that keeps coffee hot for the longest time. Doesn't burn your hands when you hold it:

Just like their car doors shut with a thud, so does this with a satisfying "click":

Vaya makes some good-looking stuff:

InstaCuppa is another good brand:

Plastic quality seems rather durable:

InstaCuppa comes with these accessories which I've never used. For me, morning highway drive = good car + good company + good music + strong coffee in the cupholder:

Not of any particular brand and not so great too, but this one has been my companion off late, since lock down and restricted stops at tea shops during long drives.

I am. I have a small collection of mugs. I always start the day with some freshly brewed black coffee. Never carried Coffee in a car though. I do have a BMW mug in the car but we use it for water.

Is this thread for car specific mugs or all coffee mugs.

I've never tried this. How does it compare to Cafe Coffee Day and other Coffee outlets

What a co-incidence. I was looking up this very mug online yesterday.

This is pretty common in Europe and America. Always loved the way they drink coffee. Almost all cars in India come with cup holders which hardly anyone uses.

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

Maybe an unpopular opinion. I don't like any of the beverages from the chains like MacDonalds and Coffee Day. Almost never carry such beverages to drink on the drive even from home. So pretty much drink only water on my drives.

On mugs, the only constant one that I use is the personalized team bhp cup. That's my standard for the morning tea.

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

The only times I drink coffee in the car are during my overnight drives. And I need my coffee to be strong, black, sugar-free & piping hot. So my solution - hot water in a flask, a small jar of instant coffee, and a mug like this (I've collected a number of them over the years):

When I finish one mug (can take 1 hour or more to go through one), making another involves a quick 1-minute stop (you don't want your wife to spill hot water on her lap when pouring out the water from the flask to the mug! ).

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

IMO, there are a few reasons why car-mugs are not very popular here.
  1. We mostly drive manuals and don't have a free hand to hold the cup.
  2. Even in case of automatics, the indicator stalk on the left side of european and american cars don't let the left hand be free.
  3. I personally feel, for right-hand dominant people, LHD cars are more convinent since it leaves the right hand free for activities like mobile usage, drinking coffee etc.
  4. A topic for another discussion, most cars here don't have properly designed cup holders. Even a premium hatch like the polo GT doesn't have a useable cup holder.
I use a Contigo AutoSeal mug to carry my cup of tea while going to work. Keeps the drink hot for a couple of hours easily and doesn't spill easily. More often than not, I end up drinking my tea only after reaching office though.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...ml#post3449733 (Rs. 1 Lakh per cupholder - My 2014 Hyundai i20 Asta CRDi)

I believe I started this cupholder stuff here I have a few travel mugs, all of which I had procured when i still lived in Canada. Having coffee with me on any drive is paramount to me, which is why the availability of cupholders was a major criterion for me in evaluating a car for purchase.

Cheers

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

I've loved having coffee or Zafran tea in a car as a passenger, out of Starbucks style disposable mugs, while on visits overseas.

I've never ever had a coffee mug, or coffee out of a mug in any of the cars I've owned.

Reasons :

1. Our roads present their share of surprises in the form of fellow road users, animals out of nowhere, undulations, etc.

As a driver I'd prefer to be always concentrating on the road in India.

2. I've said this before - I've learnt the art of driving by observing responsible bus drivers drive; and they do 3-4 hrs. of continuous driving without having anything, except, say, water.

So, for me, as a driver, it's beverages at halts only.

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

Oh god, please don't remind me of the cup I left at office before the shut down. It was a sleek 12oz white cup which has my company's logo on it. Due to it's smaller diameter, it remains the only cup I can completely surround with my palm (My thumbs can touch the tips of my middle finger with my smaller than average hands). Offers decent insulation, but nothing to go gaga about.

I try to be as eco-friendly as possible, so love my collection of cups for the road and home.

I think it is more to do with the our culture and the way we drink coffee. The average coffee sold in the US is probably 3-5x the volume (versus an average Indian one) and is comparatively watery and free flowing.

The silver one is from Nespresso and is perfect in pretty much every way, cost a bit but worth every paisa. The other one was a freebie from Starbucks. Great for a short drive, doesn't really retain heat the way it should !

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

Very interesting thread. I got a very basic doubt now - do you drink piping hot coffee/tea while you're driving? I wouldn't trust myself to do that properly. Cold coffee wouldn't be any issue though.

You'll need to get them from the USA (whenever that's possible) but Yeti makes a great few versions. Expensive but will last a lifetime.

Re: The best coffee mugs for drivers! Show your mugs here

I have always used variety of these Coffee Mugs made by Starbucks, The plastic ones are really bad and do not retain much heat but the metallic ones are the best, I have had coffee hot and pipping filled in Pune and drank it thru my drive to Mumbai.
