engineering marvel or sheer luck

This is what I would say engineering marvel or sheer luck - My Brothers Maruti Zen

was on vacation in India for a month and wanted to take my bros car for a drive to check for the basic liquids

Opened the bonnet Gosh!! There is a birds nest near the Gearbox area right side corner, chicken bones, leaves and twigs and looking at the engine condition I thought it would not even be driveable for 1 km.

Opened the radiator cap and OMG theres NO coolant No Water nothing in the coolant tank also.

Removed the Engine Oil Dipstick and w tf theres just a little oil level way below the Low Level mark. Now this is Ripleys kind of stuff "the oil was as thick as Grease"

I was just wondering as to how could he not have
1) blown head gasket
2) screw*d up the crank, pistons
3) etc etc

Checked the Brake container that was Ok just above Low
clutch was also Ok.

I asked my Bro when was the last he had serviced the car and he was left thinking maybe a last Jan 06 (thats 15 months) thats when I had done up the car for him to use (my last visit)
and the car has done over 75k in that period.
and my bro grins and says it still touches 150kmph.
i felt like smacking him in the face after seeing the pathetic condition of the engine.
The exterior / interior of the car looks like its just out of the showroom but the engine was so bad i wish i could have taken some pictures to show u guys what a good appearance car can be under the bonnet.

anyways got to the local garage and got all the flushing and liquids changed.
cost of service 3,330 included a wheel alignment.

Thanks to Team-Bhp for making me a car buff and the knowledge gained in preventive maintenance.

If your brother had driven it for 75k kms in 15 months, how come there was a bird's nest & chicken bones on the gear box. last time i heard birds build their nest on stable non moving places.

I think it was a pigeon nest. Those buggers will make a nest on your head if you sit still for 2 minutes.

Yeah. I hate pigeons. They've got unrestricted tenancy rights in my house.

I once had 12 of them pulled out from a non-working airconditioner at home. They had pecked away at the rusted innards & had made a complete mess.

I hate pigeons.

couldnt figure if it was pigeons nest but the collection of twigs and feathers seemed to indicate one, this dude drives the car to some of his friends farms near to pune (saswad, jejuri, urli) and the car sometimes is in a place for 10 to 15 days (luckily he has the brains to keep the car under a shaded place).

is there any way that can help in discouraging birds, cats to make a temp home under the bonnet??
