Guys, the airbus A380 is on indian soil for the first time. The mammoth aircraft is at Delhi's IGI airport for 2 days that means till tomorrow i guess.

Lucky few do try to see this engineering marvel. in full economy mode it can seat 853 passengers and has a range of 15000kms on a tankful. The wings hold 300,000 litres f aviation fuel to provide this range.

Vijay Mallya has ordered 5 of these crafts for kingfisher airlines.

Yeah ... It will also be in Mumbai on the 9th and 10th i think ... its part of their world tour.

Vijay Mallya is one flashy guy. :D I wonder where he will fly these! He is yet to get clearances for international flights... and on domestic sectors it won't. Even if you fly it on the Delhi-Mum sector or some such, it will be an overkill IMO.

I think he will take delivery of these crafts in US as he is planning to register Kingfisher as a US carrier and then mount flights to India from US as a US Airliner. That will trump the GOI for sure!

Whats the average of one of these??

Vijay Mallya will get delivery of hos crafts only in 2011 because of the waiting list. It's priced at $300million each.

mods: can the topic be changed to Mumbai as well since the craft will be at mumbai for 2 days as well.

..but I heard not many airports in India have the ability to land this huge plane.

By 2011 airports should have the required facility to handle the craft.

It does not need a longer runway just the parking arrangements have to be XXL. As a demonstration of it's capabilities it just used half the runway length of the IGI airport to show the short landing.

As an example the wingspan of a regular boeing 737 is 34.1mtrs the A380 has a wing span of 79.2mtrs. the tail wing span is similar to the regular aircrafts.

Mumbai and delhi have large enough facility to handle the craft.

Banaglore's upcoming Devanahalli Intl airport will also be equipped to handle the A380. that could be the reason of Mallya buying them.

But I hope the airlines won't try to cram 853 passengers. Instead they should provide bigger seats to the passengers, lounge areas, restaurants, walkways, etc. Remember Zeppelins? they had more open space than today's sardine can jetliners. Damn, I wonder whether that will happen in my lifetime!:Frustrati

I read in a paper that only 3 airports in India can take these biggies - Delhi, Mumbai and Cochin

AFAIK, Vijay Mallya has already registered a US entity to start his international flights.

853 is full economy hold 555 passengers or thereabouts if it has 3 classes with all the facilities.

Singapore airlines will mostly have the one with the shopping mall onboard. Not confirmed yet.

The problem will be getting those passengers on board. Imagine we take 3-4 hours to load a single international flight which doesnt even hold half the passengers of the A380. with 800 people and their luggage there's going to be nothing but chaos.

I hope the A380 gives some incentives to economy class travellers. The seats on the 747-400 is pathetic and not suited for long distance like flying to the US. 5-6 hours is ok.
Since I am not well built, its fine. But I pity the well built traveller on a limited economy class budget.

Hey guys their first class is really more than first class wana see check it

out upper left one is first class seats and bed with your private cabin and

even bell at the doors please guys do not disturb i am going for a

sleep.......hehe

it has a bar,a spa,a restaurant and some flights will have casinos also...my god its a plane or cruise ship man.........

the seats in economy class are said to be much more wider than any aircraft currently available. Even the legroom is more. Each economy class seat will also have it's own tv set in the front headrest.

Either this plane will go down in history as the most efficient trans-continental people mover or the solution to earth's population problem

these are some configurations that are showcased as a concept, but most of these facilities may never see the light of the day in a commercial version, atleast on the ones flying to india.
