Though it doesnt have UV (ultra-violet), it does have a germ-kill filter, and the water is supposed to be safe for drinking.

re: Recommended water purifier?

I have this KENT RO at home bequeathed by my landlord, which goes off pretty often. The latest being a cracked pipe that carries water into the filter.

The service person won't be able to come in the next 48 hours, so I am trying some kind of a DIY solution. Anybody knows how to remove the white-colored water pipes from the joints. I want to remove one of the cracked pipes and replace it with another spare one that the service person left back last time he visited.

Just to explain the exact joint from where I want to remove/pull-open the pipe, I have attached quadra's earlier image and circled the joint with red color.

TIA,
Arya.

re: Recommended water purifier?

I have been using Aquaguard's duo model since more than a year. Its doing a fantastic job for us. It is equipped with RO(Reverse Osmosis) and UV.
I feel maintenance is bit costly at 4K+ per year but it is still acceptable where you don't get good water for daily cooking/drinking.

re: Recommended water purifier?

Been using Aqua Guard Infiniti for about a year now, after couple months usage noticed that water color has slight yellowish tinge this was quiet evident during rainy season, when i complained this to the technicians they gave gyaan about the water quality etc and this system having higher micron filter etc but the point was missed i dint wanted to drink muddy water paying 12+k. after escalating to the higher authorities they agreed to replace one of the inside filters with filter with lower micron rating...

This did solve the issue for some extent, however i was vary about the water quality thats when the technician had suggested me to go in for a extrernal filter, "miracle filter" , had to shell out around 2k for this but seems like a decent option.

for those who are planning to buy a water purifier, i would suggest you pick the classic and get the miracle external filter. this would work out cheaper.

TIA,
Arya.
I am sure the service person has visited by now, but here is the info for the record. The pipe looks like this when you rotate the picture 90 degrees so that pipe is at the right and joint is at the left.

||___|
||___|========================= this is pipe
|| . . .|

(ignore the dots on the line at the end, they are just there for alignment.)

See the white cap just between the pipe and the joint. It is part of the joint, and you need to press it inside the joint, to make it look like this

||_|
||_|=========================
|| .|

Now the pipe can be easily pulled out. This cap is fitted like a spring at the end of joint, and when you push the pipe in, it grabs it and has to be pushed back for releasing the pipe.

Hope this makes the matters clear.

Thanks a ton, ani_meher! This really helps.
Unfortunately, the service guy visited me today afternoon and fixed the issue. But I shall definitely try out your suggestion.

For the record, the original service person didn't turn up. This was some other local Kent dealer, whose number I pulled out of justdial.

Thanks again for the information!

re: Recommended water purifier?

After a lot of research of various brands and models, I decided to go for Zero B Emerald. Reasons:

- Our water has very high TDS content. (more than 500)
- Purifier has 7 stage RO
- Has 3 stage pre filter
- Easy to use and clean
- Is compact, elegant, has beautiful & glowing transparent tank
- Reputed brand - Ion Exchange
- Hassle free service, as the service centre is in the same locality
- Fit my budget - cost me approx 14.5k after discount

Here's a picture after installation:

re: Recommended water purifier?

I have a water purifier of one Aqura industries. It is a Mumbai based company having service in Mumbai only. Earlier I used to stay in Mumbai so service was not a problem. But since I moved to Pune, replacing the candle has become a difficult task, especially getting the new candle. The 8 inch Eureka Forbes candle could fit in that place but even that I am unable to source now. Any idea where can I get 8 inch candles of water purifier in Pune?

If I cannot get this then only option is to change the purifier with a brand that has service in Pune.

re: Recommended water purifier?

I have been using Philips UV water purifier for the last 4 years. The experience has been trouble free. The best thing is that it needs no maintenance contracts and visits of service people. All I need to do is change the its filter after it has dispensed 3000 ltrs of water. The filter IIRC is around 700-800 rupees. It warns to change the filter after dispensing about 2700 ltrs and once it has crossed 3000 ltrs. it just stops dispensing until I change the filter. Nobody at home has contracted any water-borne diseases during this time.

Looks good too than most of the peers.

Regards,
Saket

re: Recommended water purifier?

I am on the lookout for a good water purifier. My requirements are as follows

1. Good After sales service
2. Availablility of filters in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai area
3. Reasonable maintenance cost
4. Budget between 5-10 k

Please provide suggestions/inputs regarding the same.

Also, should we purchase it online or though local stores?

I would go for one of these
http://www.eurekaforbes.com/water-pu.../smart-uv.aspx
http://www.eurekaforbes.com/water-pu...e-crystal.aspx

You will get them at local steel vessel kind of stores at a price lesser than that mentioned at Eureka's website.

I own the Aquasure Crystal model since beginning of 2008. It was a little cheaper then. Change the carbon & candle every year - you can do it from Eureka or lots of other guys - I use a 3rd party guy - changes me around 800Rs I think.

Thank you for the suggestions carboy. I will enquire about the availability of the carbon/candle in my area.

What does the UV filter actually do ? And is RO needed for area like Navi Mumbai ?
