Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Series: Halo
Seasons: 2
My progress: completed S01 and started S02
Platform: JioHotstar
Rating: 4.5/5 (visual effects are amazing, but story a bit slow)

Created by Paramount studios. The series got cancelled after 2 seasons despite Netflix picking up the rights to this franchise.

Having played the Halo 1 and Halo 2 videogames on PC (Halo 3 was XBox exclusive), I am a big fan of Master Chief Petty Officer John, designated Spartan-117 (henceforth called 117).

A movie was rumored to be in consideration for more than a decade but never materialized apparently due to the faceless protagonist (117). The TV series has let go of this and it is awesome to see tall, well built people play the role of these surgically enhanced super soldiers. The covenant forces are also designed true to scale and shape.

The series probably failed because of two reasons:
1. Fanboys cribbing about 117 frequently showing face (a necessity in movies and TV).
2. Not more than 1 season should have been allotted to the planet reach. The entire series should have been completed in 5 seasons. The current pace make me wonder if the show wanted to beat The Big Bang Theory in terms of the number of total seasons.

Ah, how this show has fallen!

Terrible writing, cheesy dialogues, woke agenda - all combine to make what was once a good adaptation of a gaming masterpiece into a steaming hot pile of garbage.

The season has concluded and so has the series. This should go down as one of the best content in whole Star Wars saga if not the best.

The level of detail, story telling, acting and most of all, the oppression by the empire is done so well that this was the first time I felt how evil they were despite watching every other Star Wars movie and show before. It's chilling.

Immense re-watch potential too. An instant classic in my opinion.

10/10

Asterix and The Big Fight:

Netflix, French. Limited series. 5 episodes.

A lovely little piece of animation that tugs at the heart of nostalgia and fills you up with childhood joy

The mixing of popular songs though a bit odd really did work in the series. Especially Boombastic by Shaggy! Who would have thought

Asterix fans, enjoy this one.

4/5

We did the same since its been a while S01 came out. We really liked S01 (Andor ending up in prison are my favorite episodes) and our un-planned rewatch ended a day before S02 aired! It was perfect. Now we are going to watch Rogue One over the weekend to complete the story.

S01 of this series is great. However, I have my reservations about S02. Keen to know what you and others feel about it once you have finished watching it.

Helen Mirren & Pierce Brosnan are a class apart! My only gripe is they could have made this a purely crime / mob story rather than putting in so many layers in so many characters. I would have preferred a more gritty setting.

I agree - this is not going to work for a large customer base.
Prime gets renewed for me on 22 May every year. Will cancel it as I rarely watch anything on prime video and it's the worst app among all my subscriptions. For Amazon there is a shopping plan of 399. Will opt for that.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Watching Andor Season 2 and episode 08 was a work of art. Hard hitting episode and my first thought was the real life Jallianwala Baug massacre when I saw that scene. It’s brilliant how they’ve weaved media propaganda into the Star Wars Universe. If you remove the blasters and tech, this episode could fit in any show where a country just needs an excuse to occupy another country for resources, or quell any resistance by calling them terrorists.

The episode ends on a hard note with a news report calling the empire soldiers who died heroes and using the phrase “the price we pay for our own safety”. This could have been a real world news report and almost made me forget I’m watching Sci-Fi.

Sorry bro, Banshee has too many forced scenes and the storyline is way too thin.

I would suggest you take a look at Mobland - great storyline and above excellent performances.

Sapney vs Everyone (Prime) - 4.5/5

I may be late by a year (or more!) after its YouTube debut, but I simply had to express my admiration for what I consider one of India's finest series/mini-series. It was an absolute delight from start to finish.

The folks at TVF are truly in a league of their own. Their storytelling invariably strikes an emotional chord, making their shows incredibly relatable through masterful writing and a keen understanding of human sentiment.

The writer, director, and actor, Ambrish Verma, is, frankly, a genius. I'm now on a mission to explore his other creative outputs.

If a brilliantly well-rounded show, neatly packaged into five episodes, appeals to your sensibilities, then please do yourselves the favour of watching this!

Ehh, didn't know about this. I am dependent on Amazon to get tons of stuff, I too rarely watch something and I am unable to view the (Rs. 399) option, could you please share a link or something?

Thanks!

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Finished both seasons of "Special Ops : Lioness" back to back. If I were to nitpick, I preferred season 1 over season 2. They are quite different from each other - 1 has more character development, a better introduction to the concept and less action. 2 has more of an 'unlimited thali' feel - you know the dishes are all going to be individually satisfying and you end up eating a lot at a breakneck pace and then you ask yourself, was this really worth eating so much of? Recommended overall.

Into ''Landman'' now on Hotstar. To say ''its about the oil industry'' would be both a truth and a disservice to the phenomenon crafted for TV by Sheridan, Glasser and adorned with that jewel called Billy Bob Thornton. Of course, the cinematography and the way Texas has been captured have to be experienced on the largest screen you have available. Of course, you'd end up looking up the songs that make for background music. Of course, you'd turn on subs for the blink and you miss it development of the storyline via dialogue. Of course, you'd want a season 2.....

High Potential
Rating: 4/5
Watched On: Hotstar

It's the story of a single mother with three children and a high IQ who helps the police solve cases.
Of course, don't expect a high level of police action drama—it's a lighter take on things.
Season 1 consists of just 13 episodes, and I enjoyed watching them all.

At times, you might wonder how the police could miss such crucial details, or certain events may seem like coincidences when you think about them.

Overall, you would enjoy this show if you like crime-solving series.
