Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Special Ops
HotStar

Thoroughly enjoyed binge watching this series today.
Since it was made by Neeraj Pandey, I expected it to be made well and it did not disappoint.

Kay Kay Menon as the main protagonist and Karan Tacker as the second lead were excellent in their roles.
Vinay Pathak as the grizzled Delhi Inspector did justice to his role.
Special mention about the main antagonist Sajjad Delafrooz - First time watching this guy and he plays the villain to perfection.
The villain is a cold, calculating and scheming genius and this was portrayed very well by Sajjad.

The other characters in the Special Ops team are not given meaty parts and used just as required.
One good thing about this series, there was no unwanted drama like what we had in Family Man with the "maybe" Adultery angle.

Do watch. I am eagerly waiting for season 2.
I will rate it 4.5/5

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Any suggestions for newer Indian web series to binge on? I see mention of Special Ops in the post above so that is something I will watch. Anything else?

Below ones are seen already...

The Forgotten Army
Taj Mahal 1989

I assume you have the English subtitles on. If yes, please switch them off during the foreign language dialogues. The English subtitles to the foreign conversation will be seen automatically. I know it's a stupid setting, but that's how it is.

Tried it. Still doesn't work. Anyways I finished that show. But Amazon needs to address it as you are left guessing when it comes to these scenes.

Thats strange. Can you try it on a series called The Last ship. Season 1 episode 3 has Russian dialogues. See if the subtitles for Russian work there.

I'll try it on the show your were watching.

I have seen the first 4-5 episodes and I like it. However, it adds to the doomsday mood that is prevalent currently so ....

First 3 seasons are really good. Then it gets side tracked but finishes on a high. Fast paced series so you will never get bored. The storyline suits our current global conditions.

Strongly recommend Special Ops on Hotstar. It is what The family man could not be, a thrilling spy series. Kay kay menon is in his career best performance. Don't miss it.

I really liked The Last Ship and have seen all 5 seasons (twice!). The first four seasons are very good. Only the 5th season is rambling and aimless and can be avoided.
Another good series which I really liked (all seasons) was Person of Interest - that is also amazing

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

The old favourite Big Bang Theory is now on Prime. Twelve seasons of 20 plus episodes each, will provide hours and hours of non stop entertainment and binge watching . Boy, am I glad that I can re watch the entire series for the umpteenth time. For those few who may not have seen this, waste no time in starting. You will be hooked. A light hearted series, perfect for these times of strife and stress that we find ourselves in.

I just binge watched this well made series on 'phishing' scandal, operated from a remote village in the hinterlands. The leading characters have given a stand out performance.
It's surprising that, this tightly scripted, nicely done series with mostly fresh young faces has NOT been mentioned on this thread.

Well worth a watch! 4/5.
I liked the acting and the overall screenplay. But, the story should have gone into technicalities of the phising scandal rather than just depending on those 5 calls made in the pretext of some offers. Regular emotions, caste feelings and black mailing.

Would rate 4/5 for the performance and 2.5/5 for the story.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Two weeks of quarantine and I'm already 9 seasons into Grey's Anatomy. I'm glad I decided to not watch it when it came out. Otherwise the binge would have failed in these times.

With next week also looking to be in wfh, highly recommended.

I have an Indian Prime account. I use it overseas without VPN. My main interest is watching Malayalam movies. The content is filtered according to the region, so I don't get all the movies that are available on Prime in India. However, from time to time I still do get enough new movies to keep me happy.
