We are merely voicing our "opinion" on the media, becoz this thread is about the media.. more specifically about TOI and its alleged lack of journalistic ethics. I dont see why you have a problem with that.

Discussing other stuff like armed forces would be off-topic.. IMHO. Create a seperate thread if you need our "opinions" on those subjects.

And Im voicing mine ... and I dont see why you have a problem with that ???

As for starting another thread .. it aint needed , what Ive said is in context to this thread , or is it that you can't seem to connect what I said and what the thread is all about ??

Also Im sure you have reported this thread so if the Mods think its of topic .. they shall listen to you :-) !!!

Cheers

Khaadu, there are laws governing all these professions except media. If a Army man, doctor, pharmacist indulge in unethical and immoral activities they would be punished by law. Abortion is a medical procedure but there is a law stating that it should not be done. Killing is a part of army's duty, but if innocents get killed, there will be repurcussions. A pharmacist cannot fill a wrong medicine, even by mistake. So you see, all these professions have some sort of law that governs them, media doesnt have any such thing. They publish any rubbish and call it freedom of press and that is my beef with these people. This freedom was given hoping that they would bring a positive change to the society, like the media that helped our independence cause. It was hoped that this freedom would not be misused. Unfortunately journalists these days sell this freedom to the highest bidder, ethics and morals be damned.

The point is that morals & ethics have flown out of the window in general ..... and thats the point here -- society has de generated and we can't single out any one medium coz its all of us that have to take the blame for it !!!

But it is childish on your part to compare this issue to larger issues that our country is facing. And yes, while I dont suggest anything, a lot of Indians did the same ("better opportunity" must be the word they used).

As far as opposing the atrocities is concerned, not sure when was the last time i or a good number of my fellow Indians or forum members did that.

Didn't someone once say- one mans art is another mans porn (or something to that effect). TOI may be a tabloid/ masala-newspaper/ yellow journalism to a few of us. But it may be a serious newspaper to a lot of others. Whats the defination of "News" anyways?

Cheers

I think the TOI is reflecting our current society perfectly with its name "Times of India".

BBC NEWS | Americas | Pair 'face pizza bombing charges'

A pizza delivery man walked into a bank with a bomb tied around his neck and said he was being forced to rob. The police surrounded him after he got out and he told them that he has a timer bomb. He was sitting on the road with police cars surrounding him and all the cops pointing guns at him, he keeps saying that the bomb will go off and boom it really goes off and he dies.

All this was show on TV when it happened in 2003 and again yesterday with no warning message. There was no blood or anything but still its a chilling video. The man sitting on the road talking and suddenly a loud boom and his limp body falls to the ground. The only saving grace is that they didn't show the pic from close up which I am sure they have.
