Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

Action movies and car movies have a lot in common. Instead of combat, car movies have a lot of car action. Which is great and we get to see some great stunt driving and thrilling car chases. Cars have played an important role from time to time in movies. You have the iconic Aston Martins in James Bond movies, the DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back To The Future franchise, Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit, Mustang GT from Bullit, and so on and so forth.

Over the years in various movies or TV series, there have been moments where we as enthusiasts were glued to the screen. These moments made us fall in love with these machines even more. Here's a small list of some of my favorite car scenes right off the top of my head.

Grand Prix (1966) - If you love Formula One, this is a great movie to watch. James Garner did all his own driving in the movie. Here's the Monaco race from the movie:

Baby Driver - The 6-minute opening scene with the red Subaru WRX STI sets the tone for the movie. The stunt team had converted the AWD car into RWD so that the drifts looked crazy:

Cannonball run - Another iconic opening scene with the 1980 Lamborghini Countach LP 400S. 40 years old and still so much fun to watch:

Need for speed - This scene might not be that popular, but I love this movie. This final race has the Koenigsegg Agera R, McLaren P1, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, Bugatti Veyron, Saleen S7, and a Spano GTA. Yes, they're all kit cars with an LS engine, but still! Just the thought of these cars street racing is insane:

Gone in 60 seconds - The final chase scene with the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500 is widely popular. We all fell in love with Eleanor after watching this scene:

Rogue Nation - A typical Tom Cruise style chase scene with cars and bikes. All in all a good action sequence with lots of BMWs:

Tokyo Drift - Sean's introduction to drifting is a great scene:

What are some of your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows? Do share.

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

If I have to be selective, then my absolute favourite is the chase from Bullitt (1968):

Second one comes from Driver (1978):

I don't really like chases in modern movies as majority of the chase is special effects/CGI.
In fact, I have a wave going on about watching movies from 1960 to 1990s with friends on Discord

Edit: Ah yes! THE CANNONBALL RUN!

This is mine from Rush 2013. There are actually many scenes that a car lover would enjoy in the movie. But this particular scene, I am sure, not only the car lovers, but a layman would also enjoy!

As a teenager, I was pretty mesmerised by the first 7 minutes of the movie Transporter 1. It made BMWs magical for me and superior to other brands forever.

Also needed here - pretty much all of the movie “Rush”.

Further adding spicy bollywood masala to an impressionable mind - the ICICI bank robbery scene from Dhoom 1

Why leave the bikes behind!

One of my favorites, i was totally in awe when I saw it for the first time, plus that Ducati.

On a lighter note unfortunately this became a role model for Bangalore riders, as till date lot of them replicate this by riding on the wrong side of the road.

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

Isn't there a thread on this already?

A fresh thread doesn't hurt i suppose

The entries so far are all awesome, here are some of my favorites (the scene from Bullitt and the scene from Baby driver are already taken )

Two from Ronin (1998)

One from Quantum of solace:

And finally, the one from the rock (for pure comedy value):

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

The Ronin Car chases are just out of this world. John Frankenheimer was outstanding in shooting these car scenes. Its not about the technicalities, however the viscerally taut feeling and atmospheric tensility of the scenes is just mind-blowing.

Even technically the car chase scenes of Ronin were very well choreographed , the usage of warning lights in the tunnel scenes and small details like pulling the handbrakes to simultaneously brake and swerve made it believable.

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

The Ronin car chase scenes are brilliant, well choreographed and limited VFX. We used to run these scenes over and over while doing A/V testing when I was young.

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

Jackie Chan who happens to be the Mitsubishi and its Ralliart division brand ambassador since the 80s was involved in a lot of promotional videos through his movies.

This Evo 3 scene from Thunderbolt (1995)

The FTO scene from Thunderbolt (1995)

This Evo 4 chase scene from Who Am I? (1998)

Technically Jackie Chan was the OG Fast and Furious

Re: Your favourite car scenes from movies & TV shows

My fav scene has to be from the Ford vs Ferrari where Shelby takes Henry Ford for test ride of GT 40 so as to convince him and make him feel what actually they are doing.
The beauty of the scene is the fact that no matter who you are, ultimately we all want to make our parents feel proud and are always looking for their validation.
