The Guitar Solo Thread

My rock music playlist is populated with songs with guitar solos. Other than usual suspects like GNR/Metallica/Pink Floyd etc, I go looking for songs with guitar solos from other genres and artistes

So what are your favorite songs with guitar solos? Add link to Youtube and mention from where the guitar solo starts and ends. Here is my list:

Metallica - The Outlaw Torn
Guitar solo between (0:00 to 1:20), (5:00 to 7:00) and (7:30 to 9:50)

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Guitar solo between (2:05 to 2:35) and (4:30 to 6:10)

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
Guitar solo between (0.00 to 1:10) and (4:55 to 9:00)

Enigma - I Love You I'll Kill You
Guitar solo between 4:25 to 6:40

Michael Jackson/Slash (GNR) - Give In To Me
Guitar solo between 3:25 to 4:00

Evanescence - Anywhere
Guitar solo between 3:35 to 4:20

Eminem/Joe Perry (Aerosmith) - Sing for the Moment
Guitar solo between 4:50 to 5:25

Alanis Morisette - Uninvited
Guitar solo between 3:20 to 4:30

3DMark 2000 (Computer benchmarking software)
Guitar solo between 2:30 to 4:45

Shane Alexander - Feels like the End
Guitar solo between 3:10 to 4:10

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

These two came to mind.
Matthias is a tremendously talented guitarist and this performance is quite something.
A G3 jam with Satriani, Vai and a third guitarist never disappoints. I have linked one of my favourites. One of the G3 jams had Malmsteen who I personally think is a blowhard but that aside it has some great solos.

I literally have no idea how to do this so linked the entire video.

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

Good idea for a thread.

Love riffs. Lazy by Deep Purple is one I like:

Check out the riffs at the following points

INTRO: 2.16 to 3.05

OUTRO: 6.00 till the end.

And here is a cover of only the riff bits in the song:

As you like riffs, you may like Yana who plays only the covers of riffs:

Here she does Pink Floyd’s Time (only the riff)

And this is Pink Floyd’s Another Brick on the Wall

Her covers are as good as the original.

Her channel is

https://youtube.com/@yanarocknroll

Contains only riffs by various artists.

whoops. I meant just mention from where the guitar solo starts (like how I have done). I have rephrased it in the original post.

This makes it easy for somebody checking out this thread to quickly get to the guitar solo part.

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

Silvera by Gojira:

Skip to 2:03 for the solo. A truly mesmerising and headbang-worthy piece, heavier than what you might have in your playlist.

The insane thing is their ability to absolutely nail it live (2:00).

Lateralus, Tool.

Skip to 6:40 for the solo, although, the whole song deserves a listen. It's fascinating, incorporating the fibonacci series into it. The number of syllables uttered in each line of the first verse are 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3, while the second verse starts from 13, the seventh number, going 13-8-5-3. The time signatures used are 9/8 then 8/8 then 7/8; 987 is the 16th integer of the fibonacci sequence).

Nightmare, Avenged Sevenfold.

Tornado of Souls, Megadeth.

Skip to 3:13. Having watched a friend play it live, it's an absolute masterpiece.

Master of Puppets, Metallica.

Skip to 3:30 for the first one (during the bridge) and 5:38 for the second one.

This one is at blink-and-you’ll-miss-it-speed.

Yana’s cover of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Scuttle Buttin’

And here it is by Stevie Ray Vaughan himself.

From 1.10 onwards:

If you listen carefully, Stevie Ray has missed a note or two.

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

I suggest anything by Jeff Beck. Not "Beck" the band, but "Jeff Beck" the guitarist.

Cheers

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

While I'm a dyed in the wool metalhead, I've always preferred guitar solos from Blues or blues based rock music, because it's all soul, feel and subtlety. Here's one of my favourites. Just an endless set of solos from the King and the legends.

And sometimes the best solos come from unexpected sources. Watch how Prince just comes in out of nowhere at 3:22 and just takes off. At one point he nods at Tom Petty as if to say, "I'm think going to jam some more". Tom nods back and he takes off again. Don't miss the guitar toss at the end. Apparently Prince played this unrehearsed. The backstory is a fascinating read.

What happens when some of the best contemporary guitarists take on Game of Thrones? Watch it unfold at 2:02

There are guitarists and there is Tom Morello. Short, unconventional solos that took Rage to the next level. The solo (if you can call it that) starts at 3:16.

Re: The Guitar Solo Thread

Awesome thread buddy. Just yesterday i was lamenting this fact in front of my students: Majority of my guitar playing years were spent playing Bollywood. My friends and community we're predominantly bollywood listeners.
I had heard only rare few western songs. I got exposed to proper guitar playing and music after 16 years of playing
My only shortcoming was/is is my limited vocabulary of good songs. This thread comes as a 'God sent' to me to overcome my only weakness.. please accept my heartfelt gratitude thanks

I'm going to try all of these on my Rig now! Might even post some covers if anyone is interested to see.
FYI: Joe Satriani is my Guitar God and Idol. Was lucky to see him live in Pune.

My contribution:
Parisienne Walkways
Song by Gary Moore

Intro
0:38 to 1:13

Guitar solo
1:43 to 2:17

Outro
3:00 to 9:00 (one insanely long and beautiful outro)

Gary Moore is hands down one of the best emotive player's I've seen. Just a Les Paul with overdrive on a Marshall, and this man made it sing and cry! A rare, unheard, Gem of a player.

I did not think I'd like this, but this one blew my mind. Any other similar jazzy/bluesy songs with prominent guitar play?
