The little red light could also be put there to warn oncoming traffic of the road merging into 2-lane from 4-lane. If so the bus driver may not be at fault, as pointed out by others.

Its a warning light on the side of the bus. Something which trailers and trucks have but in orange. Is that a person still trapped in the front seat? May their souls rest in peace.

The root cause (close gurss) is that the truck was driving without HEADLIGHTS either one side or both missing!
