Re: Mumbaikars : How are your electricity bills treating you?

Everyone from our society changed from Reliance to Tata around 1.5 years back.

Our bills are still more or less the same. maybe a difference of 100-200 bucks not much.

Best to use a voltmeter and check input voltage at mains. In our area, the nighttime voltage would shoot up to 265 volts. this would mean a higher reading of consumption, for no fault of consumers, and the life of appliances also shortens. We realised this when a lot of people started having failed compressors, motors, TV's etc.

Even so, it took a lot of pressure from higher quarter to get the V toned down to 240.

This is a known ploy to increase their income from areas with lower density of non-paying users.

I don't think it's possible to switch from MSEB.

I am not a low density area.
my statement means: they do such voltage increase in areas where there are more people who pay their bills on time. in areas with a larger concentration of slums they do not do this.

area is defined as the area under single substation/ transformer

This month, the bill is a whopping 3500 Rs - I still haven't got the bill in hand to see what's the reason - but what's the way to complain/figure out why the bill is so high?
Looks like it was my mistake - I had forgotten to pay last months bill - So 2000 of the 3500 was actually arrears. This month's bill was actually lower than the last few months.

My MSEB bills are on a steady rise since the last couple of months. Actually tried to calculate the costs mentioned on the MSEB bill but arraived at a lower bill values than the actual. Have been trying to gather myself to walk to the nearest MSEB office to get a breakup of the costs, but havent been able to do so.

Came across this link, know its old but still gives an idea about MSEB costs breakup.

I also had the same issue from May onwards. Bill had slowly risen from 1500 odd to around 2500. But this month, if you ignore the arrears the bill has gone back to 1500.

Re: Mumbaikars : How are your electricity bills treating you?

In Hyderabad it is the same situation but, hoping its temporary

Last couple of months got a bill of Rs.2500 against the normal Rs.1000 during non-summer months and was told this is due to FSA ( some collection of arrears) for 2-3 months

It remains to be seen if Jan'13 onwards will it come back to normal monthly rates...

Re: Mumbaikars : How are your electricity bills treating you?

I am currently with Reliance Energy. I use around 200-350 units a month.

As per this site - http://www.saveyourbill.com/index.php Tata is cheaper.

How easy is it to switch from Reliance to Tata? And how do the two compare in reliability?

Re: Mumbaikars : How are your electricity bills treating you?

Hope this thread is not limited to Mumbai users only.

I am facing a weird issue with Mahadiscom in Pune.
Since October the number of units have gone down substantially each month. My bills were around 800-1000 Rs. earlier. In the last few months the amount has come to Rs. 300 - 400.
This month I got a shock. The bill is Rs. zero.

The units consumed are 50 and the amount is Rs. 296 -- but they have put an adjustment of -296 and made it zero. Name: billgraph.PNG

I promptly paid Rs. 10 for the record.
I am not sure if they are trying to settle some old stuff by compensating now.

Has anyone landed in this situation?
