Have the exhausts been replaced? They are not HT pipes.

Gears,

Those look LT exhaust.
HT Pipes dont bend at the End.

was there an HT inm 88 - ?

i thought within 2 years of launch of the HT in 84 i guess , the LT version was launched ..

anyway irrespective of vintage, only way to know HT OR LT would be to open her up....

btw - wats the "optional" word on the pricing ?

HT that too in 88?I think so after launch of LT in 1987 only Police guys use to get HT till 1991.
BTW i am 110% sure that these pipes are LT not HT.

You can buy an engine cover, you know. I've seen LTs with them. And those are LT pipes, your mech has been taking you for a royal ride if he says otherwise.

Did all the police guys get HT or was it a choice...

'coz mine is a 1988 police auction bike from UP! though it has "Made in India" written on the engine cover.... is there a remote chance that it might be an HT and not LT as I always believed.
Note: The exhausts are not original so no other way to judge!

AjayBiz and V1p3r are right. Those silencers are 100% LT. BTW, don't go by the 'Made in Japan' on the engine cover as this cover fits both LTs and HTs and there is a good possibility that it has been changed on your bike. Same with Silencers, you can interchange between LT and HT silencers.

HTs were made only until early 86. To make out if a RD is LT or HT(without riding it), look at the bore(below the lat fin), you will find only '347CC' written in HT and find the word INDIA next to 347CC if the bike is LT.

I see that you have original 3.50 MRF tyres in the rear. Are they easily available in Hyderabad? Is 3.00 MRF available in the same pattern? PM me the tyre shop details, I shall get my friend in Hyd to pick one for me.

A Little off topic... but here's something interesting.... I checked my bike out after reading all this.
It has 347cc written below the last fin on both sides but no "India". Now... the papers say "Year of Manufacture: 1988" and the cover has 'Made in India' written on it(agreed that it can be changed)!
Can anyone tell me if i should still consider my bike LT or is it an HT!?

cylinder block from your description sounds HT, if 4th oversize and stock liner means it still retains HT but if sleeved it can be anything, since ports determine HT or LT

pipes definitely is LT ones

Year of manufacture 88 means LT, made in india is LT, so by most chances the cylnder is a replaced ones from an HT

at the end of the day it really doesn matter HT or LT, how are the other stuff?? one set of cylinder and pistons can be done in whatever spec if you spend some good money
