Nehra and GG are good options. Both are straight shooters and don't shy away from controversial decisions.
Yup, A Jadeja will find it difficult to get into BCCI setup. I liked him as a captain, few of his decisions were against the tide those days but benefitted the team. Somehow, he was charismatic even on the field especially with his field placing and bowling changes.

Even GG will never get into coaching or managerial role per say till we have Kohli playing. They cannot have a bomb ticking inside the changing room

Ajay Jadeja was one of the sharpest brains during his playing days. It's no surprise that the Afghanistan setup is benefitting from his acumen. Also, if on the right side of the authorities, no taint is big enough to stop someone from getting involved with the Indian Team. Even a Sreesanth is now getting to earn by way of commentating. So, I see hope for Ajay Jadeja in future.

Gautam Gambhir has the biggest ego one can come across and I don't see him in a coaching role at all. Fun fact- Ajay Jadeja and Aashis Nehra are best of friends and it would be wonderful to see them operate together someday.

As far as the world cup goes, South Africa looks the most unpredictable team as of now. That Klaasen can single handedly destroy attacks on a good day. In the knock outs, South Africa will be the team to beat with Australia being the other one.

Barring Srilanka and to an extent Bangladesh, all other teams are putting up a fight. The assistance to bowling has played a role, and this has helped teams like Afghanistan and Dutch. We really haven't chased huge totals due to the same reason.

While England might've all but eliminated themselves out of the knockouts, they still have matches to ruin other team's chances.

The Aussies themselves aren't in great shape either.

True, the best example is Azar who became president of HCA.

HCA is a different story altogether. If BCCI had a say there Azhar would have never been president. Azhar is facing accusations of corruption there as well.

Anyways, let's talk cricket.
Like I said earlier SA is the most dangerous team this world cup. They are on a mission. If they can fight there DNA of choking in important games I see them playing the finals for the first time in their history.

Dekock might thing again about his retirement. The rich form he is in should give service to SA cricket for sometime.

I expect a good game tomorrow. Netherlands can surprise Australia. Barring the openers Aussie batting isn't as strong as it looked on paper.

South Africa put on another dominating performance today as they beat Bangladesh by 149 runs. At the moment, they are looking the only team that can beat India in this World Cup.

Let's not forget the support from the local Chennai crowd all the way for Afghanistan. It looked like India was playing against Pak. The last two.batters were showing supreme composure and maturity towards the end.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

While I'd love to see SA in the final and maybe even go all the way, I'm afraid they are over-reliant on de Kock and I'm really worried about another semi-final meltdown!

Not sure if that's a good thing. IMHO, any involvement with match-fixing that is reasonably proved (and I don't think the BCCI would ban players like Ajay Jadeja and Sreesanth without reasonable reason), and I think the player in question should not have anything further to do with cricket in any capacity in the future. Just an opinion.

SA batting has been challenged only once by Netherlands bowlers and they lost that one. I don't see India losing to them because our bowling is Strongest in the tournament so far. Ya, if it's a bad day then it's a different thing. We should play Ash against SA. He can manage De kock and other lefties. SA blasts pace like anything and their weakness is against spin.

Indian crowd has a soft spot for Afghanistan so it's no surprise they are supporting them.

Won't say they are overly reliant on De kock. Against England De kock was out in first few overs but they still managed to make 399. Their whole batting line up barring Bavuma is in terrific form. Bowlers need to be on their A game against them. SA still chokes in chasing. Just once in the tournament they had to chase against the Dutch and they collapsed to 207 all out.

India should bat first if we win the toss and let SA chase. That would be interesting for both of us, we need to set a target which we haven't done so far and for them to chase it down.

BCCI isn't be all when it comes to legal stuff. They didn't need to ban players when their names were given in Match fixing. Without proper investigation we can't deem someone as a culprit. Should have followed proper process to punish if someone was guilty. It's actually egg on their faces when court declared Azhar, Jadeja and even Sreesanth innocent. Now bcci ego won't let them work with them. They manage commentary gigs cos of broadcasters and not cos of bcci as bcci don't have a legal right to stop anyone from employing them.

The guy was banned in the year 2000, at the age of 29, just when the prime years of a batsman start. The ban was overturned by court in 2003 but the BCCI ensured he never got back to the Indian setup. It is 2023. I think he has served his sentence. Ajay Jadeja has probably lost a lot more money, face, and fame than he would have earned using his match-fixing endeavours.

He was an excellent fielder, a reliable batsman and vice-captain at the age of 29. He must have done some things right at the time to reach that stage. If a foreign country sees value in what he offers, who are we to stop them?

I agree with you guys in principle. But considering the damage that revelations like Cronje and Cairns have done to the credibility of the game we all love (in spite of trying so hard not to!), I think very strict measures are needed to rid the game of the specter of match-fixing.

I'm not for one minute suggesting a witch-hunt or lifetime persecution of course. If the court decides someone is cleared, that should be accepted.

I've underestimated SA on the lead up to the World Cup. At the halfway mark, SA and NZ are the more tested teams.

Both teams have literally zero superstars and yet are producing results.

And no, QDK isn't the only dude who is playing. Aidan Markram has been in form from the England series and has continued the same into the World Cup. Klassen, Jansen and Dussen have done their part in different matches.

It is India, that's not been tested yet beyond Virat-Rahul pair this World Cup.

That knockout meltdown fear is there. And this applies to both NZ and SA. NZ has a longer history of being eliminated in the knockouts, yet they've been out of the spotlight in terms of choking

BCCI is definitely not to blame here because of the way they handled the match fixing fiasco at all. There were no legal frameworks or sections under which they could be charged for match fixing. That was the sad state of affairs of our country's legal system. There was no provision in IPC under which they could prosecute match fixing. The one valid section they could use to book these players was 'conduct unbecoming of a government employee' since these players held posts in PSU banks or enterprises. The legality of this was challenged many years later and courts let them off on this count because of validity of IPC. BCCI did their best within the legal framework to get the deserved punishment.

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...4.cms?from=mdr

Azhar became an MP and through influence got control of HCA since all state cricket associations are politically controlled and now have to wait and watch how the corruption case goes against him.

These guys are not innocent since they were let off by courts since the statements and testimonies against them by senior Indian players including Sachin helped nail their lies and was one of the main reasons why BCCI handed them life bans.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Is there any good YouTube channel to watch the highlights? I only see a couple of fake channels with very poor quality that show highlights. Couple of official Cricket Board channels, like the English Cricket Board have pretty good highlight videos of matches they host. But I am not able to find anything like that for the World Cup matches.

I watch the highlights packages here, but they are of a very very short duration.
