Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I have always felt that Gill’s technique is suspect. He comes across as a pure hand-eye coordination player. It’s as if he gets committed to his shots, especially the drives, when the bowler is still only releasing the ball. Seems to lack footwork and deftness to react and adjust as per the swing or turn. He’s young and at the peak of his physical prowess, he’ll get away with it more often than not for now. Especially in limited overs cricket. But he may be found wanting in more testing conditions, especially once he gets into his thirties. Doesn’t seem the have the ‘time’ that people like Tendulkar or Kohli or Ponting or Inzaman always had, to adjust their shot as per what the ball was doing.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Shami is proving match after match why he should be a frontline bowler ahead of Siraj. Stokes looked absolutely stoked while facing him. Both he & Bumrah are breathing fire. Kuldeep managed to turn even with the dew in force(Butler wicket was treat to watch, classic wrist spin). He & Jadeja doing what they do best, finishing off overs quickly while taking wickets and not leaking runs. Our bowling is what will win us this World Cup if we get there i.e.

Just a matter of time with only 2 English wickets remaining. Btw Iyer soon needs to sort out his act else highly likely he would be dropped for Ishan mostly considering he brings in the left hander variation as well.

P.S: Shami deserves a fifer & MoM

What a scintillating bowling performance, absolutely killed it. This match sums up the England’s whole world cup campaign. What a horrible performance from the defending champions.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Superb, convincing win for Team India. Didn’t expect England to crumble like they did, from winning the previous edition to being at the bottom of the table in this edition!

Our rise in the game in the last few years is definitely due to the bowling improving and becoming a force to reckon with. Our batting continues to be our strength as well as our weakness.

Absolutely disappointed to see Rohit get Player of the match and not Shami. No disrespect to Rohit & his inning was crucial but it was the bowling which won us the match. This shows no matter what bowlers do, this game is biased towards batsmen

Wow, this is absolutely disgraceful from current world champions. Not sure what is ailing the team, they still have some of the most destructive batsman on paper but no one seems to be firing.

What a bowling effort from Team India, the intensity was absolutely amazing. Loved the spirit and good to see SKY making a good contribution.

This was a very tricky surface and Rohit was eventually the difference between us also folding up for 150, he definitely deserves it today. Shami did get it last match when he was deserving, he could also have been picked today but for today my MOM also was Rohit.

Excellent Victory for India. The bowlers had not got a chance to show their skill till now, but they got the opportunity and they pounced upon it.

Like SoumenD said, it would have been nice to see Shami with the award.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Shami has punched the management hard with his performances for keeping him out. Top class in both games. LALA Supremacy!

Rohit and Kuldeep were excellent. Bumrah doing Bumrah stuff. SKY did great for his 49. Hardik comes back we may drop Siraj and continue this combination.

Rohit getting Player of match is justified. Only guy to cross 50 when everyone else struggled here. Shami missed his fifer by a whisker.

This is quite a domination so far
6 out of 6. Let's continue this confidence.

A quick word on fielding. Everyone is doing their utmost best. A misfield and catch drop will happen cos they are also human but the intensity to take a catch and save a run has been absolutely brilliant to see. Kudos to fielding coaching staff.

Shami too deserved it, but it was the anchoring from Rohit that really set a decent score for us to defend and the fiery opening spell from Bumrah gave us the head start. Against NZ and PAK, Shami and Bumrah respectively won the POTM.

We folded mighty Australia and Pakistan under 200. How did you miss that.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

What a performance. That bowling was exceptional. Might as well give the trophy to us now and put other teams out of their misery. I don't see anyone coming close to defeating India. Unless something crazy like duckworth Lewis comes into play this tournament is done and dusted.

I meant in the context of defending the total . Sorry for not specifying.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

What a win yesterday for Team India. The win although sweet, did expose a few chinks in the armour. The way the middle order collapsed is something the think tanks need to start focussing on because the elimination rounds will not give the liberty of another match to make up. The bowling was out of the world with 7 English wickets being bowled which tells the length and accuracy with which Shami, Bumrah were bowling. Siraj again went for runs. Kuldeep's wicket of Jos Butler was an absolute beauty. So were Shami's wickets. Luckily this time there were no cases of butter fingers like the last match.

I sincerely wanted Rohit and Shami to share the MOM award.

3 more games to go for Team India and hope they continue to dominate as they have been doing till now.

Till the time Hardik comes back, what do we stand to lose if Ashwin replaces Siraj?

1. Definite gain in batting.

2. Sure to concede less runs, and not likely to be less penetrative. I suspect we might not lose anything even considering the pace vs. spin angle. May even gain.

3. Do we really lose anything i.t.o. fielding?
.

What a proper hammering by the Indian team!! Holy Vishnu, what a way to send a message to other teams.
Can't wait for Ind vs SA on 5th Nov.

This is puzzling to me as well. Yesterday Ashwin would have been perfect.
With regards to the factors only place where Ash is weaker is fielding.

Just my opinion- Some Test players lacking “technique” have also been quite successful, like Chanderpaul, Steve Smith, Sehwag, maybe even Ganguly. I wouldn’t worry too much especially in the shorter versions of the game.
