Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Pakistan team looks like in the same mode as that of 1992. Can history repeat itself?

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

New Zealand higher NRR gives them a good chance though, they just need to defeat SL, who have looked very off color.

Pakistan goes up against England, another team trying to lift itself up, currently seems England might go down to Aus at this point, Stokes though is capable of spoiling the party.

Tomorrow match should be a lot of fun, I hope SA bats first so we get tested thoroughly, if they bat 2nd they might not win.

DLS method win should be 1 point, not 2.

The winner of a match is awarded 2 points no matter how they win, DLS method or otherwise.

Although Pakistan batted brilliantly, had the match gone the full distance, things might have turned out differently. Sustaining the momentum / run rate for 50 overs is never easy when chasing a big total like the one today.

Absolutely. 1 wicket and things would look drastically different with new man in and required un rate climbing up with every ball. They were very lucky today that the weather gods favored them.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Pakistan played well and NZ bowling was pedestrian. NZ had a good chance if the game had gone all the way though. They were expecting reverse swing later (or rather trying to induce one) by throwing the ball on pitches around while fielding.

Hope their next game is not washed out or Stokes will help his native land by beating Pakistan They should try to start games at 7 AM in Bengaluru since it usually rains during evening.

Pakistan is unpredictable but it isn't as competitive as the 1992 team. I echo Ravi Shastri, Shaheen Shah Afridi as well as Babar Azam are overrated cricketers. They are good but not yet in the league of Bhumrah & Kohli respectively. F Zaman has played 2 good knocks but remember he is always been that one good knock among many failures player. No threatening spin bowler, no hard hitting lower order batter no Imran Khan like captaincy. Don't think Pak will even make it to the Semis.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

For once NZ appeared to falter with their strategy. Persisting with Phillips and then Sodhi when they were being thumped all over proved to be critical in the DLS scenario. Couple of overs from Boult and Southee to try and break the partnership may have just been a better option.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

India win the toss and elect to bat. The stage has been set to see what both teams do when they’re out of their comfort zone for a change:
1. Known to be good chasers - Can India get a 350ish score against a top bowling side like South Africa?
2. Known to blast when batting first and also have a chokers tag when chasing - Can South Africa chase a big total successfully under lights ?

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

BCCI might not have been able to provide proper hype for world cup but they sure did good enough job when it comes to bringing hype for VK's birthday. The cheer when rohith got out by crowd was pretty exceptional and little bitter sweet

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Kohli looks completely off from the overs 35 - 40, may be the pitch has considerably slowed down ?? Or is he eyeing a century ?

I think King Kohli follows this thread seriously .

Congratulations on his 49th on his 35th.

Hope he will keep delivering whenever it matters the most.

The pitch is definitely slow and have turn in it. Not easy to bat on after initial overs. So playing according to situation. Besides we reached the par score by over 40 so might as well get his century in peace. This is already massive score on this track. That along with our spinners and pace attack this is a slam dunk.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

King Kohli does it again, cometh the hour, cometh the man!
What an appropriate occasion to level Sachin’s record of 49 ODI centuries This should immensely help the team today on a pitch that doesn’t look very easy to bat on (despite the initial cracker of a start that Rohit and Gill gave us).

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

We should have ideally bowled first and tried to give SA the chance to play to there strength, would have tested our bowling as well. It was a given SA will choke batting 2nd, but this is not choke this is Strangled.
