Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Afghanistan crash from a comfortable 112/2 to 156 all out.

They seem to be playing in T20 mode not trying to get to the end of their 50 overs.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

South Africa playing like beasts against Sri Lanka and marching on towards a huge 400+ score. 394/5 now with 3 centurions in Quinton de kock, Rassie Van der dussen and Aiden Markram (got the fastest ODI century in a world cup taking just 49 balls).

As Mbangwa just mentioned during commentary, Sri Lanka's game in the recent past has high highs and low lows with nothing in between! Can't disagree there.

Edit:428/5 in 50 overs!

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Playing world cup matches in the subcontinent isn't an easy affair. Apart from having to face the varied rigors of nature, the participating teams must also cover a lot of ground to actually reach the playground. A report in Wisden details the phenomenally long distances that are part of this tournament.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

This is yet another example of how commerce is given preference over everything. Ideally, the home team should have a more comfortable itinerary. Instead, we are the only team along with England who is playing all its games at different venues. Too much travel IMO.

And all this despite tournament being hosted in single country unlike in 2011. Surely that edition must have more travel than this correct? Even 2015 should have had more travel with Aus/Nz being joint hosts. Nz might be tiny but Aus is pretty big although less number of stadiums than us.

I don't think there is any hard & fast rule regarding this. Though BCCI could have pulled a few strings & ensured itinerary is suitable but I think they were more worried about majority of the India games being held on weekends. What they certainly should have done is not have the Team travel the length & breadth of the Country (Guwahati & Trivandrum) to play their warm-up games. Its another story that both got washed out.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Weekends plus all states would have wanted an Indica game to pull in HD crowds.

There is no rule, but we should have had some home advantage here.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

So 4 games done and dusted, not even a single exciting game, all one sided. There is no visible interest in anyone for the world cup, this format is literally dead.

If it was T20, I am sure atleast 2 of the 4 games would have been last over finish. Just kill this format ICC.

Isn't it strange that our immediate neighbours were hosted in Hyderabad itself for both their warm-up games and their first 2 WC games? Minimal travel effort as well as better acclimatization for them to a single ground.

Perhaps BCCI returning the compliment for the recent Asia Cup where our team was the only one that played all games in Sri Lanka only, while all the others had to jet between our 2 neighbouring countries.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I guess lot of pressure from state boards also as they would also want to make money and as trend is clearly showing only India matches will be house full. It's all about money in the end.

I hope tomorrow match is a competitive one, these two teams are capable to ignite some fun in the tournament.

Yuvi was exceptional with the bat AND bowl. Sehwag could bowl as well.

This time we lack such all-rounders. If India win, nothing like it

But it'll take some labour, luck and sweat by the national team.
We can't compare the present team with that of 2011 winning team. The game has changed a lot and a 50 over game is more or less being played like T20 games nowadays. Though it can be a tall order for India to win this WC nothing is impossible. Yes they would need some kind of luck as well as consistency in the games to make this happen. Let us hope for the best.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I had my own club match in evening so couldn't see much of SA match. Caught highlights and Markram was simply superb. Such a shame Decock is retiring after World cup. He has so much more left to give on International stage.

Sri Lanka is missing some key bowlers. Still credit to batters to make sure they don't collapse and reduce the margin of defeat.

Quite pumped got today's match.

That might be due to the hot afternoon combined with the fact that Aus is batting first. I have seen people even skipping the match on TV because of first bowling. We truly are only interested in batting, be it while playing or watching
