Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

We will win this hereon, but am happy we had a close one. Helped test our bowlers & proved we aren't invincible. This game was much closer than the win margin suggests. These learnings might just be what we needed for the finals. Sloppy fielding, dropped catches, so many extras, lots to retrospect on. Can't afford these against Australia who turn into beasts in knockouts/finals of ICC tournaments.

Here's hoping we win the cup this year.

Thankfully the last 3 catches went to Jadeja

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Lala and Brohit the unsung heroes of this tournament. People are crazy for Kohli but for me these 2 have made all the difference in bowling and batting. Great fifer again.

Kohli 100, Iyer 100, Gill 80.
Bumrah with tight death bowling, Jaddu and Kuldeep doing the spin job when needed and Jaddu with cool as cucumber catches.
Except for sloppy fielding many a times a perfect game and result.

Mitchell was outstanding in chase fighting till the end. Great talent.

We are playing The Finals and winning it for sure

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Not awarding the Man of the Match to Shami today would be a gross disrespect to the role that our bowlers have played in this tournament.

He DESERVES it.

Iyer and Kohli batted well but without Shami's timely interventions, this match could have gone anywhere.

Edit: He had scalped five when I posted this. But with two more in his bag, I am pretty sure the MoM is his for the taking.

Can’t agree more with you

Shami has been the man of the tournament for me till now and Rohit has shown the intent to go for the win no matter what the situation with his leadership skills, batting and some brilliant field placements.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Done and dusted, New Zealand who were India’s nemesis in ICC tournaments in the past are now out. What a performance by the Men In Blue - excellent batting followed by superb bowling and a sevenfer by the Lalaji Shami

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

It was a terrific bowling performance by Shami. The match was much closer than what the scorecard indicates.

Rohit's captaincy was top class. He was ahead of the game and was always thinking ahead!

Terrific batting as well by Shubman, Kohli, Iyer "The Great" & Rollce-Royce Rahul

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Now that the team has aced the ShamiFinals (), Rohith must reflect on where, why and how his plans failed to contain the opposition in the middle overs. But for Williamson's dismissal, the contest could have gotten too dangerously close for comfort.

The bowling and fielding units weren't their normal selves today; one can't afford a repeat in the next game.

That said, 10/10 is indeed a great run. And as Manjrekar rightly quipped, along with the results the performance of the team too (barring minor aberrations) has been 10/10!

Best wishes for the finals.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

A hard-fought win for India, although the scorecard doesn't paint the true picture. The Williamson-Mitchell partnership really kept the Kiwis in the hunt, well-aided by erratic fielding and unusually high extras from the Indian bowlers. India really had to dig in deep to overcome the Kiwi fightback. This will help them stay in good stead going into the finals. Shami, once again, was incredible, taking a 7-fer on a batting paradise in a World Cup semis is epic. Rahul, too, has been exemplary behind the wickets. His DRS calls have been absolutely spot on. A gem of an innings from Iyer. Rohit's blistering start and Gill's knock were just world-class. King Kohli scoring his 50th ton today is the icing on the cake!

Overall, relentless and consistent, the team has been all through the tournament. Any player who has played the game will be the first one to admit that there's no bigger glory than winning the World Cup. It's incredibly heartening to see the Indian players playing together as a team, executing their roles to perfection. Time and again, Rohit has reiterated this. Although Rohit might have missed a few personal milestones, winning the World Cup will be the biggest feather in his cap.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

It was another dominating performance by team India. 398 was always going to be a daunting task but New Zealand did well to stay in the game for about 35 overs when Mitchell and Williamson were going good.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Shami has taken a giant leap from the pack to possibly bag the player of the tournament, no matter what the end result in the final is.

Totally agree. Bumrah's contribution through ought the tournament also goes unnoticed. He was wayward at start yesterday but redeemed himself with some good bowling in the end overs. Shreyas Iyer has made sure the middle order does not falter and put his hands up and has had 3-4 important knocks in this WC.

Have been a critic of KL Rahul and the way he plays but he has been exceptional in keeping, DRS and batting. He has taken in all criticism and come back stronger and let his performance do the talking.

Rohit is playing on another level in this WC. We are 85 or 90 runs at end of 10 overs purely because of Rohit's batting exploits. This is turning out to be the difference in a lot of matches and the rest of the batsmen are able to bat freely without worrying about Runrate. Very selfless and he could have easily had 4-5 hundreds in the WC but he puts team ahead of him. For a person who struggled for 2 years, this is a drastic change and a revelation. Win this WC for this man, for he leads by example and has been stellar as a captain and opener.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

One more legend to thank for all this - Rahul Dravid. Again, I was among those who stated that this Rahul too needed to be dropped from his position on the team. But again, this Rahul too has proved a lot of us wrong. I think a World Cup success is as much the head coach's, and support staff's, as it is the teams'.

Hope to see the man lift the trophy as coach, that he didn't as a player. What a long and legendary service he has provided to Indian Cricket throughout his life.
