Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

The commentators just said that this world cup would be about middle order. Oddly enough after being India's Achilles heel for years, middle order is what will help India this time around. I think in KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer we have two batsmen who are very well poised to take the bull by it's horn in the middle overs, provided we don't lose early wickets.

Very good match this. Absolute demolition of the Pakistani team. It's 8-0 then in ODI world cups.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Clinical win.

Bowlers bowled with heart on a flat deck and got the wickets. Probably one of the worst collapses in a World cup important game.

Siraj did a good recovery. Bumrah best bowler for a reason. Kuldeep resurgence will go down in history. Jaddu great with the ball and even hardik chipped in.

Thakur should be replaced with Ashwin or Shami for rest of the matches. He is the only weak link for now.

Gill at top is great even though he lasted only couple of overs. Happens.

Rohit approach is fantastic. No matter giving target or chasing play aggressive. Shame missed his 100.

Iyer haters would have understood why he is preferred over Ishan.

8-0, Our Amazing record against Pakistan in ODI world cups remain intact.

Bumrah Rightly Player of the match. He was brilliant.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Clinical win. Best birthday gift to Gautam Gambhir! Shardul Thakur should be replaced with R Ashwin. Worried about R Sharma's fitness. He looked tired and disinterested as soon as he got to 80. Missed opportunity to score his 8th century. 8-0

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Rohit hits 6 sixes today to extend his lead further at the top of the list. The opposition did not hit a single six in their innings.

KL Rahul playing sensibly once victory was assured, to allow Shreyas Iyer get his half century - should tell Pandya to learn how this is done.

I want to know what SunnyG is smoking off late - he was all praise for Ravi Shastri, in post match talk, for todays performance

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I wanted Rohit to get man of the match today. His captaincy and bowling changes were brilliant, not to mention how he just did not let the Paki bowlers settle in.

Bumrah deserved it in the game against Afghanistan, where Rohit got it.

Really!?

Seems like a slip of tongue. Earlier, Waqar Younis was doing commentary and talking about an old Ind-Pak World Cup ODI match (1996 IIRC) and he commented that Ravinder Jadeja (he meant Ajay Jadeja) made some crucial runs against them (I hope I heard right as I sure wasnt smoking anything).

No slip of tongue sir, he had him standing next to him and went on about his prev work in dressing room contributing to it and what not! And not even a mention of current coach and management, speaks a lot about what goes on behind the scenes and the power play at work.

It was the other way round. He wanted to speak on the all round performance of R Jadeja but he took name of Ajay Jadeja. He sarcastically corrected himself that because earlier topic was about Ajay Jadeja hitting him for some 20 odd runs, his name popped up.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

I think India should get done with out obsession for Shardul Thakur. He does nothing with the ball and even with bat, I tend to trust Ashwin more of we ever need services from bat in a crunch situation.

That apart, the team looks settled and should be one of the top contenders to take the cup.

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

Around the 7 minute mark, Pak coach is complaining 'Pak songs' were not playing in the few moments Pak had in the match - e.g., the eerie silence when Pakistan took a wicket.

While it does seem like a rant, I do remember such songs playing in previous Pak games in Hyderabad. Similarly for other teams.

Does anyone know what happened here?

Re: The 2023 Cricket World Cup

This has to be the most one sided of all India-Pakistan World Cup matches. Jingoism aside, not a great advertisement of the game or even the rivalry. While it was fun watching the batting collapse and then the Rohit Sharma show, this was nowhere near the epic matches like in 1996 or 2003 or even the recent T20 match in Melbourne.

It is a rant. It is too cute to expect and largely Indian crowd in current situation being impartial. Mickey Arthur is trying to divert the attention as the panelists in this Pakistani news channel (no small names) have rightly pointed out!

I agree on the rant part. And I do agree on the Indian crowd doing Indian things.
My question though is, if supporting both teams is the ICC protocol (which is how it should be in multilateral tournaments), and that is being followed in other centers, why not here?
