Yeah, 192.168.1.1 just refers to your modem, it is the same for all users. Try entering http://192.168.1.1 from your browser & you will know what i mean. However, thedefault gateway & preferred DNS change with the operator. Best option is to leave it all default. I am sure this has nothing to do with his settings. Will be resolved in a couple of days.

Rahul read thru here , should be of some help. Have patience, the problem generally self resolves and this is known to happen with the BSNL broadband connection .

Guys, if there is any technical fault causing this problem I could have mom speak to the broadband department and have it checked asap. I know for a fact that at BSNL most would not even be aware that such a problem exists.

Nobody in BSNL has a clue on what is going on in their network, so just forget this angle. My cousin is a D.E in my exchange & when i told her my problem, she just said try lifting the receiver from the cradle & see if it works. And she was a brilliant young woman when she joined the P & T dept. That tells a story, doesn't it ?

Sam Oxford Kasapi is right.

Now even my download speeds have hit 5KBps from the 28-34KBps it always used to be. Needless to say I am getting very irritated now.

My default settings are as follows:

IP address - 192.168.1.110
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS server - 192.168.1.1

However the router settings says:

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps):512
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps):2048
LAN IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway: 59.92.128.1
Primary DNS Server: 61.1.96.69
Secondary DNS Server: 218.248.240.135

Now I am able to upload pics to imageshack but can't upload videos on any of the sites. I have got a feedback from a lot of users of UL 900 plan that the upload speeds never go above the 8KBps mark. Which is downright pathetic.
