Re: Gun Ownership

Trigger warning

It seems DNA swabs have to be taken from parents because identifying the dead children has been a challenge thanks to the type of weapon used.

I just can’t stop thinking about what those parents would be going through!

It is really really sad and heart wrenching to hear this first thing in the morning. Why cant the so called most developed nation do something about this. Many administrations have talked about it, but have failed to make a dent. I am furious now. Is there something that the international community can do to push for a "No Gun" culture in the US or are we just a bunch of sad bystanders

Mods - Please delete if it is inappropriate, but at this point of time i am fuming and weeping at the same time and it is not a good feeling

Re: Gun Ownership

Very sad to see the gun shooting innocent of kids in Texas. Just imagine what was the mind of the killer who snuffed out so many kids who didnt do anyone any harm. The parents will have irrecoverable nightmares.

Re: Gun Ownership

Damage control.

I was wondering how the conservative media (that tends to align itself with the same political viewpoint that tends towards less stringent gun-control) could possibly put a spin on such a horrendous incident.

Well, guess what, they did manage to pull something:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/uva...ontrol-prayers

Notice how the article shifts the focus on the profanity by the Democrat senator and in general to shift the focus on to the shortcomings of the Democrats (who generally tend towards stricter gun control). Over the coming days, it'll probably work. Use every tactic to shift focus away from the incident itself and attack those calling for strict measures. And surely enough, in these emotional days, their targets will provide enough talking points to add to these kinds of articles. Create enough noise and the main issue will be drowned out.

The media is such a potent force in such issues, that is well known, but to manage a spin on something so blatantly tragic, man that's something else.

Valuable lessons for the citizens of every country dealing with polarizing issues. Don't get lost in the media spin, step back and look at the issue from the point of basic morality and humanity. Easier said than done of course.

Re: Gun Ownership

At the cost of sounding uncaring and heartless, I would say that you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. Given that this tragedy has taken place in Texas, it is highly likely that many of the parents of the innocent victims are gun enthusiasts themselves ready to draw their guns at a moment's notice to protect their precious second amendment.

Re: Gun Ownership

Another episode that highlights the misplaced priorities of the Amurican society.
Individual liberty over everything else is often touted as the supreme reason to bear arms and armaments for self defense (and in the same breath sometimes also say that offense is the best defense).

Well the greatest nation on the planet earth forgot one thing - people form societies, for collective good - and as societies evolve based on past experiences that sometimes means compromising on some aspects of individual liberties.

Somehow Amuricans appear to me like teenage kids who are often unable to realize what is going to be good for them in the long run. Free-markets for the win, survival of the fittest, yeehaw!
Full of contradiction that two faced society.

Unfortunately very true.

Barrera said that he is a gun owner and that as soon as he heard about the shooting, “I called my wife and told her to close the door and load the guns” for her safety. He has three high school students who were in lockdown for about three hours when the shooting started at the elementary school.

Re: Gun Ownership

It has happened before. It has happened now. And it will happen in the future. Americans' ostrich attitude will never change.

This was a constant fear of my cousin who lives in Texas, when her twin daughters were in school. Fortunately the girls never encountered any such incident and are in a college far away now. But the fear will remain, till they graduate.

Sadly, nothing is going to change unless there is a revolution.

The politicians on one side are too friendly with the gun lobby to do anything and the ones on the other side are too scared to do anything. The more I look into the record of Democrats, the more I am reminded of Akali Dal. Calling someone an Akali in Punjab used to be an insult, to mean that that person will lie through their teeth to get what they want.

There is clear evidence that States with stricter gun laws have lesser gun related deaths but people who listen to only Fox news will never know.

Re: Gun Ownership

Ban liquour, ban drugs, ban abortion. Ban guns?

America was founded on liberty, Well, the American left has watered down a lot of that - yet it still remains a place where they put a lot of importance to individual liberty.

We the product of socialist/authoritarian regimes would find their ways preposterous - so its better we stay away from that land. And the ones who are already stuck there and are scared of guns can always hop to a state where guns are already banned.

Remember the adolescent joke about getting a genie to grant a wish, on condition their worst enemy gets double, and the person says 'beat me half to death'?

Turns out it wasn't a joke at all. Humans do be like that.

Re: Gun Ownership

This is a glimse of how a nation could let citizens 'enjoy' what they want in a most safe way. Difficult to achieve though, in such a country as ours; or for that matter the USA, for which the video was made.

I dont think someone intent on mass murder would hold back because crossing state lines with a weapon is a crime.

This fear is not just limited to Texas. Majority of my white neighbors (inland counties of California) have guns, and they are proud of it. They drive their kids to shooting ranges and they practice regularly as a family outing. They are brain washed to think they are the "good guys with guns".

The fear of mass shooting never ever goes away. After graduation, its shooting in the mall, shooting at workplace, etc. Every time there is a layoff, I am sure most Americans are on the edge about a disgruntled employee losing his mind.
