Since i dont know about Mumbai, am comparing to Hyd. Roads here arent all that wide, and where they are, you would find people parking on the roads, with no care at all, and thus blanking out an entire lane. In the main city areas, traffic literally crawls, and that explains the poor mileage which owners report from their rides. If you love your car, be prepared for some heartbreaks, in the form of some cabbie scraping past your car, and also rash driving.

I did read your disclaimer. Having lived in Mysore, Bangalore and Hyderabad (All over 2 years), I don't think Hyderabad traffic sense is better in anyway. In fact, I find it to be the worst of all (I have, for short durations, lived in Pune, Mumbai too).

@Adman,

I think everyone has given you the picture of Bangalore pretty well. I would like to just add something that wasn't mentioned.

In my opinion, Bangalore is a more laid back city and does not compare to Mumbai when it comes to the "fast life". You may find that difference very clearly once you're in Blore. If you're looking for that, then you'll be thrilled.

Well, yes.

This is my Bangalore office address. Which will be a good area to stay nearby?

Have a look at Frazer town, Domlur also, which might get you within your budget.

I like BLR weather. Been here from Pune for last 6 years and I am happy with the decision.

You need to know atleast one south indian language to win over the people in here. Not that Hindi doesnt work, But WINNING you argument is the key here.

Night security is a bit low after 7:00 PM, esp for ladies, anywhere in BLR, always have my heart in my mouth when my family goes out during late evenings.

Night life: When did I experience it ? Was it before marriage ?

Shopping: Many areas for you to empty your wallet

Education: Cost of it is rising raplidly, more than the inflation

Real - estate: Dreaming for it for the last 6 years and its still a dream

Anyway, WELCOME TO BANGALORE

True, but not as laid back as Mysore
I lived all my life in Bangalore. But I have spent some time in Kolkata, Mumbai & Delhi. I find people in Mumbai more customer or business centric and slightly more professional. Bangalore is still to catch up in this aspect. Except the crowd in Mumbai local trains, I found most things better in Mumbai.

As of now, looks like it makes more sense to stay in Mumbai.

Traffic sense as such is horrible in any Indian city. Hyderabad has better roads, and so traffic moves comparatively faster. Stunt drivers in Hyd are usually 2 wheelers, while the cabbies do the same on Bangalore roads.

IMHO the best part of staying in Bangalore is the weather !

And hey, nobody mentioned anything about the "darshini's" of Bangalore. LOL !
People are also nice and friendly. Don't mean to generalise, but I guess most of you agree with that.
There are also a lot of weekend getaways near Bangalore, if that is something that you look forward to.
My only complaint is well...the night life! Max -11.30 p.m. Nothing beyond that. But there are a lot of happening places though.

Do not base your decision entirely on the inputs from this forum. All places has its pros & cons. Infact, for all the negatives poured out here (incl. me), I can vouch that 99% would not want to move out of Blr (again this incl. myself).

So, decide based on the merits of this move on your career.

1 BHK's are not the norm in Bangalore, look at 2 BHK.

The area is still developing, lots of IT companies, ongoing construction and dust.

I had a very short stint of living in Bangalore and though I lived in Kormangala, I have some experience of traveling in Whitefield area. As Dadu mentioned, loads of companies coming in and hence loads of dust due to the construction activities going on.

PS: If you are a foodie, would recommend the Kormangala area.

High Noise Levels

What nobody is mentioning is high noise levels compared to any other city. There are about 1 lakh autos with defective/modified silencers running here. This will cause long term health effects.

Guys, I know everyone loves to bash up bangalore. But if you compare on all counts , weather, commute times, cost of living, cosmopolitan atmosphere etc, I am still to find another big city that is more liveable.
