Happy Onam

Another Onam coming up in less than 2 weeks. But other than that, the reason for bumping up this old thread is a "marapatti" (civet) that was found dead in our yard in Kerala. A search for civet brought up some 10 odd threads including this one - looks like we have a thread on just about anything on tbhp.

Known as Civet in English, I wonder why it is called marapatti (literal translation being tree-dog) in Malayalam, since it mostly resembles a cat, has a head/snout like a rodent and a very long tail unlike the short dog-tail.

Chanced upon this one dead in the yard and took few snaps before giving it a burial before the whole place starts to stink.

Check out how long the tail is - almost as long as it's body.
