Opening a workshop/modshop in Goa. Will it work?

Hey guys,
Just playing around with the thought of opening a workshop which will have all the basic facilities plus modding/tuning facilities in Goa. Need you valuable opinions. How feasible is it? Goa tbhpians, please comment.

Look forward to have a workshop run by someone honest and knowledgeable.

I know of workshops that have one and not the other quality. The temptation to rip customers off will always be there, but then that is the case in all professions. One can only build up a reputation by delivering quality with consistency and reasonable pricing.

Problem in Goa is that volumes are low, hence it will be some time before you make a real dent in the market and start making good money.

all the best!

Modshop in Goa

I second what filcord has to say.If your quality is good and at a right price you will definetely do well in Goa.
Secondly once you get loyal cutomers they will go on coming back to you.
Location is another important factor.Should be easily accesible and easy to locate
All the best.

It would be great to see some thing like this here, but business point of view , I do not think it'll be that great of a business here, the volumes will be so low that breaking even will be a nightmare.

I know this through experience of one of my good friend....

Adman77, why did you pick Goa? Your profile indicates you're Mumbai based.
It could be a big success in Mumbai.

I know it'll be successful in Mumbai, but that's not the point. Wanna get away from this chaotic life and do something that I love. Don't wanna make it too commercial. I love Goa and would really love to move there. That's the reason.

No one will spend the amounts required for modding cars in Goa. Also there are some well established workshops in Goa which are doing good due the the word of mouth recommendations. Setting up a new store and then trying to get customers is a big no-no.

If you want to make Goa a home think again, if you have visited Goa as a tourist then you like lakhs others will want to settle down here, but understand that infrastructure is still a big issue. Hospitals, electricity and water are already stretched. You wont get shops open after 20:00 and no pharmacy too. If you take any help, understand the blokes will dissappear in sometime. Salaries are very low and you get equally quality labour. But its getting better, but business wise dosent make sense. Corruption is as rampant as elsewhere in India.

Instead increase the frequency of your holidays to Goa. I am a Goan and would be the last person to say any negatives about my home state, but thats the way it is now. Its beautiful no doubt and a great place to be and more then anyone else i would be the first to go back.

For business especially in the car mods a long way to go. How i wish i am proved wrong though.

As a Goan living here since birth, I wish you were wrong Spitfire, but you are quite right. Sad but true. Still there are many things that make me rush back after a trip outside, even after a trip to the West.
But all this is OT.
On the mod-shop, think long-term and be a trail-blazer in quality. Business will come, and once it does, you'll be glad you're in the place you want to retire to.

Filcord, if you do something that you love, you never retire.
