I am from Kottayam. It is a small town about 60 kms south of Kochi. You can hire a cab from kochi airport/rlvy stn or go by bus or train. There are frequent buses (every 10 mins or so) between the two places. Let me know how and when are you planning your trip and th exact location in Kottayam and I can help you further.

Kottayam, being near to some of the main tourist locations in Kerala like Thekkady and Kumarakom, has got some decent hotels. Some of them include Hotel Aida, Anjali Park, Windsor Castle etc. See the link below for more details.

Hi Cyrus, if you are travelling by train you can get down in the kottayam railway station itself. If you are flying down the nearest airport will be nudumbassery, which is like some 60-70KM from kottayam. Once you reach kottayam you can think about staying in Hotel Anjali or the Homestead hotel ( Just opp to Malayala Manorama Office ) both the hotels are good, you can also try Windsor Castle which again is a gud hotel and is in Kodimatha..As kottayam is a very small town all these hotels will be in a 3KM radius. As for travelling within the town you can hire a auto or rent out a car from the hotel, both are comparitevely cheap ....Also do not miss out kumarakom, once ur in kottyam..make sure u visit kumarakom. If you need more info you can PM. Will be glad to help you out...

To add on to what the others have said, Aida and Pearl Regency are good. Both around 10 mins from the Transport bus stand. Windsor is better, but on the higher side of the rate chart.

If staying at Kottayam is not critical, he can stay at Ernakulam / Cochin and go to Kottayam - about 1 1/2 to 2 hours by road.

Hotel Orchid (situated near SBT main branch) is also a very good hotel within the city.
Don't miss out the KARIMPINKAALA restaurant about 7km out of the city. One of the best in Kerala for traditional cuisine. They serve all varieties of sea/fresh water fishes and prawns.

It's better to stay in Kottayam if you're planning for more than a day's work. Don't choose Cochin and travel up and down. Or you may have to plan a trip up to Mars/Moon/Jupiter etc... Oh no! I forgot, there's no traffic jams up there, eh?

Hotels first (in increasing order of rate card): Hotel Aida, Anjali Park, Windsor Castle
Restaurants: Bestotel (one of the oldest - try their chicken biryani, chicken with bread and/or the mayonese/chicken sandwich), Anjali - Try their Parotas and chicken
If you like to unwind, stay at Tharavadu Heritage home at Kumarakam. Brilliant place. But need to book in advance. Call Jomon there and refer my name, Praveen Krishna from Chennai.
If you want to blow money, try Choice or Taj. Guess that helps.
