Building a Racing Seat ? (out of carbonfire / fibreglass)

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you guys had any info or knew any websites that would help me out with the process of moulding a racing seat out of carbonfibre or fibreglass.
Any do it yourself type website links would be useful. Also any interesting designs (apart from typical racing seats)..

Thanks,
R

building a carbon fibre racing seat requires a huge oven..heated to a few thousand degrees so as to 'bake' the mould comprising the various carbon fibre layers ( of diff. thickness and weaves )
its is the most important part of the monocoque structure

dont know any of the technical details..
except that u cant really make one ureself.. has to be done by the experts

Hey Hatari,

Well i know that they make car bodys in the oven (like the macf1 etc) but, i think that might be due to the resin that is being used.

Im pretty sure that we are going to be forming a seat out of carbonfibre without the use of an oven. It seems like the process is similar to fibreglass.

Anyway, back to the topic...i need any links or info on moulding seats if anyone has any. Ergonomics, measurement, types of padding . upholstery etc etc...anything.

Thanks,
R

I am in the process of making a race seat for my Dolphin, simply because the existing ones cost as much as my car did.

The mould will be ready in a few weeks time and after that we start making them. If anyone is interested let me know. I can get copies made. You have to upholster them to your tastes.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies, only just saw the late ones... :P

The seat i was asking about was finished about 6months ago.... took a long time to make...learned a lot..... and i have been meaning to put up a thread on it since forever!!! (domnic, ported, salil_2001 can all vouch for that...sorry!..) maybe i will do it soon?

here are some pics in the meanwhile....

Used about 340sq. ft. of carbon fibre!! lol

The car has a 600cc Honda F4i bike engine. More details on everything later....
