Man the surface wind is like 200kmph...thats a lot...seems my car will make some donuts without the driver :-)
Its very hard to predict a cyclone. Specially how its gonna behave once it hits the land...so whether we will get 40% or 100%, its hard to predict...but some very rough days ahead...
Wish: I want to be a BHPian before that. Tired of still being a Newbie.

I've been tracking the cyclone since morning. The good news is that its started to move slightly towards Bangladesh... In the morning, the eye of the storm was forecast to pass 24 kms from Calcutta, the last update increased the distance to 58 kms. That said, its still a small consolation only... 58 kms is still very very bad!!

You can watch this site for further updates.

Oh my God! This is big!
Hope it doesn't cause severe damages. Let's pray.

What're the precautions other than parking your car in a high area? And is the government is WB doing something helpful this time around?

This one looks like a big storm. Please take care of yourselves. I do not think it is worthwhile to expect the Government to do anything helpful to citizens. When has it done anything anyways?

Please store essentials for a few days and do not venture out till the weekend.

As they say, it is very difficult to predict how the cyclone behaves. I only pray that it does not do much damage.

Be safe people.
Try to store as much water and eatables as possible.
If You are living in a low-lying area, please make sure Your family is moved to safe grouds first.

Its good that effect of cyclone on WB may be reduced, but I also feel bad for Bangladesh. Poor people, I hop and pray that Cyclone looses some force.

I'd say take your cars and take a week long retreat (that's what I would do), they are evacuating the places anyway.

insurance sector is going to take a hit with this.

Some more good news for Calcutta. The storm has turned further away towards Bangladesh... the eye now forecasted to pass 75 Nautical Miles from the city (my earlier post should've read NMs instead of Kms).

The wind has just started to pick up here. The worst should be here by 11 PM!!

Feel sorry for the poor living near the coast, both in India and Bangladesh. The WB government finally woke up in the afternoon today and has started evacuating people, but I'm afraid its going to be another case of too little too late. I have no idea why the media as well as the government completely ignored the early warnings... reuters, bloomberg etc. have been reporting this for more than 3 days now!!

looks like storm is brewing up - just came back home - strong chilly wind along with drizzle. lets hope for the best.

the other side:

if you guys have access to Star Ananda news channel - the news about the storm coming is there - but what i saw is reaaly heart breaking - they showed a clip of the merciless man slaughter @ nandigram - the govt knows all about this but acting otherwise as if they dont know/care about it.

i just pray that this STORM comes to an end soon with less number of casualties.

As per the website I mentioned earlier, the eye of the storm has now moved completely into Bangladesh and is nearing Dhaka. I think we've been spared the worst...
