After all this admonishing, i am sure you will forget what's a smiley.

Welcome to team-bhp and do use smiley's but in a restricted manner.

When cars are parked parallely, I have seen many people simply bang open their car doors not minding that their car door hits the adjacent car's doors and creating dents/deep scratches.
Arun
Have a sensor fitted in the car which will open up a invisible protective shield of steel spikes. BANG the other car's door goes flying those guys wont know what hit them.

Was waiting at a signal with an indicab standing beside me, slightly diagonally to my car. Two morons sitting in the cab decide this is where they want to skydive, and BANG !! goes the door, right into the rear of my car, just below the tail light. I dont want to spoil my mood, shift the car into gear when the signal goes green, and carry on with life.

I check out the damage when i get to office. Notice a deep scratch. Curse the guy, all the way including his ancestors, and carry on with my day. After all that was the least i could contribute towards some illiterate wanting to scribble his first word, and not knowing where to do it.

Or may be we can have cars with iron doors and no painting. No one can then cause a dent/ scratch.

Interesting. Looks like it is difficult to trace a person who has never had a dent/scratch in his car.

Thinking of predented cars, why don't we have the sheet metal of the car have dimples(semi sphere shape) like you see in helmets. It will be hard to notice the dents. It may look more like a pattern of the dimples(for smaller dents of course).

The mention of pre-dented cars reminded me of a cartoon by Hemant Morparia that appeared in Bombay Times some seven years ago. It showed a purported ad for a Zen PDR, the PDR standing for "pre-dented rear". For some reason the Zen's butt was prone to caving in at the slightest of nudges.

I try to do the same as well, but finding corners is not very easy. Another reason is, that a lot of times the space earmarked for each car is less. So cars usually end up being parked very close to each other and when you open the doors the probablility of banging on the nearby is a lot.

One wild idea. Why don't we tie two bull dogs on both sides of the car so that no one will open their car door which is near your car door due to fear of getting bitten. They will be forced to open the other door and bingo your car is saved. This is applicable for parking lots. It will also help when you park in secluded areas as well - no one will dare to come near your car.
