I too got a notice from IT dept regarding some arrears of Rs 30k from the last years tax. It looks like they have missed out certain figures including my PF contribution and ended up with high tax liability. I checked with my employer patroll dept and they said it is some database problem at IT dept and just send them a copy of Form 16 and ITR-V forms once again to the mentioned address.

I found out the problem.
They have not taken into consideration my "HRA benefit"
Thats why the extra tax demand.

As for sending a letter to them, I will do so, but at the same time I am going to file a rectification under section 154, as mentioned in the letter.
I will go to my local income tax office for this regard.

If its a mistale on their database, shouldnt it be corrected by them instead of filing rectifications. They should check the original filed returns.

Does this mean the problem is only for e-filing?

and @tsk - IIRC, what you show on the returns is gross salary less HRA less profession tax less entertainment allowance. Or salary shown is net of HRA. What is the issue of HRA deduction?

That is, what is shown in column 6 of form 16 goes into col 1 of ITR (I use ITR 1, so I may be wrong).

I took my return and form 16. The income tax dept my income is XX.
XX - my HRA is the income on form 16.,
So somehow, they have neglected the hra claim,
I suspect its because I am also claiming house loan benefit. As the house we own is in bangalore, which is more than 200kms from noida, we are entitled to both HRA benefit for noida house as well as house loan tax benefit for bangalore flat.
But somehow they have removed HRA benefit from their claim.
So I have to go to income tax office noida and file section 154 for rectification.

I doubt that is something which can be corrected by filing a revised returns - I guess that is what you mean.

You will need to take up the matter with the assessing officer.

No email confirmation after efiling!

After efiling "success", I got this message:

Quote:
Your ITRV has been sent to you on your email id: (my correct email address)
But I did not receive any email from the IT dept! Anybody else experienced this?

I did download the ITR-V from the same page, however, -- but wouldn't know the password to open it except for team-bhp's help in this regard!

Since I didn't receive any email, I'm not sure I'd receive an acknowledgment by email either, after I send my ITR-V. What, then, would be my proof of sending it if I post it by ordinary mail? The ITR-V specifically forbids Speedpost, while the efiling site seems to allow it. I also don't know how Speedpost would be delivered to a Post Bag address! I'm confused!

Dont worry you will get it after one day.
Instead you can download ITRV from the same website .There is a tab/button on the right side 'My account'.
@tsk1979.
If you have done efiling are you sure that you filled values in the correct fields ?
In my case I entered my ITR2 wrongly .When i called up CPC , i was told to send the rectification letter directly to them . I did so last week .Called up today to check the status and i was told to call after 2 weeks.

They have extended dates for filing returns. Reason - problems with the e filing system.

Last date for filing tax returns extended to Aug 4 - Moneycontrol.com -

Check your spam folders. One of my friend had it over there

Anyway, you can get it from the online site itself.

I too downloaded the ITR-V from the site. The email came a day later. I reckon there is some sort of a batch job which processes all such requests in one go. I may be wrong in my inference as well.

Which is the last date for filing audit returns for the year 2009-10.
Is there need of digital sign for sole proprietorship as earlier it was only for the partnership firms.

do NRIs who are filling IT returns elsewhere have to fill in a tax return form as well? I heard they fill the form will tax to pay nill and attach the tax paid by them outside of india.

Also if someone who has worked outside of India and the employer deducted tax from his pay. But the person is back in india just under 6 months meaning he was 6 months and few weeks of the financial year in india. What income tax would he file?
