Man's '91 pickup passes the 1M-mile mark

GRESHAM, Wis. - Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest."

Er... What is the big deal here? I am sure lot of beat-up cars and jeeps in 3rd world countries manage much more than that. Tourist taxis do make 100,000 a year on the average. And we lots of such taxis that have seen 20 or more years. I am sure we have enough Ambys/Jeeps in India with this achievement.

Exactly, they have already mentioned 1M miles. So tourist cars with 20+ years on them easily do that. I recently asked a Amby driver in Mangalore airport much he drives everyday. He said about 400Kms in 5-6 drops a day, that's not odd considering many people come from 100Kms away to the airport. And his car was 30 years old. These guys work atleast 25 days a month, it will be 120,000Kms per year, but let's take it as 100,000 considering lean days.

Edit: 100,000x20 = 20Lakh Kms (that is higher than 16Lakhs)

I think saab and honda have given new cars to the customers who completed 1M miles earlier. Saab even went on to say that this offer is open to anybody who completes 1M miles.

sometime back ford was running a slogan "where were you" (when your truck hit 250K miles). to celebrate long runing trucks.

rajdoot motorcycles in india used to have 25+ year old rajdoots' meets if i remember correctly.

Wait a second, I remember a Volvo ad featuring a P1800 that had run 2 million miles or something of the sort. Ill see if I can dig any info up.

Of course, to cover this amount of distance in 12 years, not being a taxi driver, is a feat in itself.

The trusty Mercedes OM616 regularly crosses 10 Lakh mile mark. I think this is special for a chevy silverado but not a great feat in general.

there was a SAAB that crossed the 1M mark, the owner was a salesman, and SAAB bought the car back to put it into a showroom. And the news was that he bought another SAAB.

Perhaps not everyone is as well informed as you.
Just wanted to share with the not so worldly wise

Cheers

Mod Edit: There is no need for sarcasm, mockery of fellow members is stictly probihited in Team-BHP. Four other members have already mentioned similar cases, I was not alone. Besides, my comment was directed towards the CBS and citizens of GRESHAM (Wisconsin) for making such hoopla.
