I don't think crowds would be allowed. Even if allowed I think it would be about 15-20% capacity. Might look weird but I think we have to get used to this new normal till there is a vaccine.

A friend is in UAE and confirmed that crowds will be allowed. At least as of now. What %, no idea.

F1, Football, Tennis are already being played without crowds; this wouldn't be too different. There isn't any crowd for domestic matches anyway so players know the feeling.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Vivo will no longer be the official sponsor of the Indian Premier League 2020 season. The development comes after BCCI and Vivo decided to suspend their partnership.

BCCI is expected to issue a new RFP (Request for Proposal) to pick a replacement sponsor - likely short-term for this season.

The 13th edition of the IPL is set to be held from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE. The 53-day tournament is set to witness the afternoon matches starting at 3:30 PM IST while the evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST.

It was Vivo themselves which decided to pull out

Setback for BCCI as Vivo pulls out of IPL in wake of backlash

Quote:
The decision comes a day after the cricket board said that it will retain the Chinese sponsor. Spokespeople for BCCI and Vivo declined to comment on the development.
Vivo, which still has three years of the sponsorship deal worth ₹1,320 crore left, is likely to return to sponsor the T20 tournament from 2021 to 2023.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Is it time for JPL (Jio Premier League)?

Though this would create conflict of interest between MI and IPL. It would be interesting to see which corporate comes up because of the current economic condition.

"Conflicts" of interest can be managed. Experienced legal practitioners exist, it's a question of expediency.

With big money at stake I don't see the ownership of MI being a stumbling block

Agree, legalities can be sorted out.

However, MI winning the title (fair and square) in a championship sponsored by Jio may not go down with a few people - especially Indian media. Of course, I am just speculating.

However, this shouldn't be an issue as Amazon and Unacademy are already in the race (https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/...-report/633275).

Not exactly whooping when BCCI were scheduled to get 440 Crores from Vivo for this season, BCCI have actually lost out on whopping amount of 218 Crores.

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

Since the teams are playing on a foreign turf does the home and away really matter? Because unlike the South African edition here the games are being held only on three stadiums.

How's the heat at 2pm in UAE in the summers? Is it healthy to play matches at those times?

It's more to keep the same format that we are used to -Two teams play each other twice and never meet in the same Venue.

The one team which would've played more games in a particular venue compared to the other can consider that venue as their "home". Doesn't make a big difference to the 40overs, but this will be used in the allotment of dressing rooms, who spins the coin at the toss etc...
