Looks like it is after seeing the way the CSK is playing against MI. Unbelievable debacle.

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

Finally Mumbai Indians lift the IPL trophy as the champions of IPL6 (or was this match fixed too). The match wasnt that exciting by the finals standards. The way CSK wickets fell, there was a thought that whether Srinivasan wanted his team to lose in order to save his face or else he would have had another smear if CSK would have won.

Surprisingly Malinga bowled fantastically with Johnson giving him company.

The "God" aka Sachin Tendulkar hangs his boots for MI in IPL. Mike Hussey & Dwayne Bravo truly deserved the Orange & Purple Caps resp.

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

Chennai Kings
- twisted rules with number of retentions. there was no such retention originally intended. makes it look like a David Dhawan movie scripted on set as we go along
- tried to get Flintoff in their team at any cost. probably succeeded, not sure
- would not allow Lankan players to play in Chennai (ok, political thing). but in that case, matches should have been moved elsewhere. undue advantage for chennai in home matches. maybe thats why dhoni thanked chennai home crowd in his last match. if chennai kings came 3rd or 4th, they might have been eliminated before the so called final
- who was team principal if it wasnt Guru? IPL rules say that any team involved in betting/ fixing would be immediately banned. regardless of enthusiastic people.
- delhi police had said 3 kings players were also involved in spot fixing. who were these players and how was this news suppressed later?

IPL had credibility only because players like Ganguly, Kumble, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag etc were made icon players. To give it respectability. If not for these (and other international) players of repute, there would have been little to differentiate IPL from ICL. regardless of all the hoopla.

lets just look at the IPL minus these players of integrity and then reconsider how many would be aboev suspicion.

if not for revenue, the chennai kings would be automatically in the final without playing any league matches. maybe next year onwards toss will be automatically decided to be won by chennai?

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

Chennai Super kings were outplayed yesterday by a very impressive Mumbai Indians. CSK never looked like they dominated while batting second. Malinga was right on the money. First, a toe crushing yorker to get rid of Hussey and then a bouncer to get rid of Raina. Badrinath, Vijay and Jadeja played some awful shots to get out. As usual Dhoni was the last man standing and i bet the Mumbai Indians were vary of his threat even when CSK were 8 down.

But, as the curtains come down on another eventful IPL season. This season will be remembered for the spot-fixing fiasco, last IPL for Tendulkar and Gilly, a swash-buckling innings from Gayle and some terrific fielding from all the teams. Congrats Mumbai Indians on winning the IPL 2013!

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

I have a doubt.

How come Mumbai team is not part of ANY controversy? Is the team ownership so straight and aboveboard?

A little hard to swallow, you know!

Posted by Dr.Subramanian Swamy on FB:

"In the interest of national security I urge Mr. N. Srinivasan not to resign from the President of the BCCI, or accede to the chorus for his quitting in the wake of prima facie evidence that his son-in-law Mr. Meiyappan was engaged in betting on IPL match outcomes for which he has now been arrested for custodial interrogation. Srinivasan need not pay attention to media double standard of demanding his resignation but not of Ms. Sonia Gandhi for the same reason.

The demand for Mr. Srinivasan’s resignation is being orchestrated from Mumbai by the underworld whose operational headquarters is in Dubai. Many of the Indian politicians and businessmen who are baying for Srinivasan’s scalp are frequent visitors to Dubai and have travelled frequently to that city on the private plane of Shahid Balwas, who is a charged accused in the 2G Spectrum Scam trial. Mr. Balwas connection to Dubai gangsters is well known.

In the past the IPL has been used indirectly for terrorist financing and compromising key politicians on honey traps with imported call-girls to compromise India’s national security. With Mr. Srinivasan’s taking over the President’s post, not only the cricket capital shifted to Chennai, and thus logistically severed from Dubai, but also the Chennai team trounced the Mumbai cricket supremacy.

It is therefore ludicrous to see the Sahara Chief demanding Srinivasan’s resignation, considering he himself is on the way to jail.

I urge Srinivasan not to resign hence, following Ms. Sonia Gandhi’s example of not resigning for the Himalayan fraud committed by her son-in-law Robert Vadra [now ordinarily resident in Dubai], but urge him to hold a press conference and expose the dangerous national security risk of Dubai-Mumbai nexus in seeking control of the IPL cash flow and ultimately undermine cricket.

I also demand that the Prime Minster direct the setting of a Commission of Inquiry under a sitting judge of the Supreme Court to go into this sinister nexus of foreign terrorist patrons, corrupt Indian politicians and businesspersons, and IPL"

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

Actually what is the problem with legalized betting?
In fact what is the problem with betting?

As a consequence, what is the problem with match fixing? Unless you have bet your money, you shouldn't be bothered by match fixing.
Because the outcome of the match is in any case not known to you ...

You got lured by the TV ads and the mob mentality for entertainment, you are getting it (entertainment) nevertheless, whether the match was fixed or not. What difference does it make to your life?

Don't tell me about competitiveness. You care about competitiveness? You like watching games where two individuals or teams show their athletic prowess against each other? Are you serious ... , because cricket is one of the least "athletic" sports. We have lot of other sports in India that allow much better display of competitiveness ... ever watched any of those? Do you even know they exist?

You got lured by the TV ads and the mob mentality for entertainment, you are getting it (suckered) ...

N. Srinivasan became BCCI chief only in 2011, whereas CSK won it's first title in 2010 and reached finals in 2009 itself. So who twisted the rules back then for them? the same ex-officials who are baying for his blood now.

So when Federer was thanking the crowd after winning at Wimbledon, that's because the local doctors conspired to give poor treatment to Nadal so that he couldn't recover from that ankle sprain?

FYI, CSK lost both home matches where Malinga for MI and Sangakara for SRH were not allowed to play.
And regarding 3rd or 4th position, all these years when they reached the finals they weren't the table toppers.

I'm not trying here to defend the BCCI chief or CSK Principal. But trying to belittle this sucessfull Dhoni led team is like saying, P.T.Usha won those 5 golds in Asian games only because of the corrupt IOA chief Kalmadi who fixed things for her.

Sachin and Gilly will not play IPL in the future. Hope Mr. Cricket and the Wall follow suit. So that only jokers are left in IPL

I think The Wall had already decided/ hinted at stepping down after the Champions League. This was announced before The God declared his retirement.

Few questions to N Srinivasan (BCCI President):

1) Are you telling you don't know the owner of CSK?
(Note: For me it is clear - since CSK is owned by India Cements, Managing Director of India Cements or anybody appointed by his is the owner of CSK. MD of India Cements is N Srinivasan.)

2) Why do you need 5 member commission to find out who the owner of CSK is? Hasn't the owner signed any BCCI document on behalf of the franchisee?

3) Is there any deadline for this owner-finding commission?
(Note that commission on Lalit Modi is yet to submit its report after 3 years).

4) If Meiyappan isn't the owner or CEO or Principal of CSK, why was he allowed in the dugout, in players auctions? Why did India Cements give him these responsibilities?

5) You promise fair investigation of Meiyappan. But all along you were with Meiyappan right until the moment of his arrest. Why would a BCCI President spend time with a person accused of betting?

6) Why didn't BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) have any clue about betting happening under its nose? What actually did ACSU do all these years?

Dhoni should be happy that his team did not win the IPL. It would have been quite odd for his team to celebrate under so much of controversies involving the team and its officials.

By the way Mr. Srinivasan's comment that Gurunath was just an enthusiast and has nothing to do with the team was the biggest joke in this whole scandal.

So you doubt only Mumbai's team not being a part of any controversy? Why do you not have similar doubts about Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkatta etc?
