re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

So the season of IPL is almost upon us, what do you think of the new rules.

1. Playing 11 can be named after the toss - Personally I think this is a great rule specially with dew taking center stage in second innings.

2. Impact Player - This I think is even better a substitute anytime in the match but before the 14th over of second innings. This adds a new dimension to the game and brings in tactics from outside the playing 11 also into the fold. Personally I am looking forward to see how teams are going to use this, I am sure lot of tactics are already being discussed.

3. DRS call for no ball or wide, this is also a good one, though it is the first two that will be more fun.

Let's see how things pan out this year, waiting from an eternity for RCB win, let's see how they perform.

Practically, if the teams use this well, it is like 12 players for each team.

Considering this, it makes sense to select the team after winning the toss. The team batting first will have the extra batter who will be subbed off in the second innings for a bowler.

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

It's IPL season boys! Here's some players I'm looking forward to watching.

1. Indian left handed batters: At least one lefty is needed in the top 6 in the Indian XI. I'm looking forward to watching Tilak Varma (MI). He's a middle order batsman and has a good first class record too. Ishan (MI), Jaiswal (RR) & Abhishek Sharma (SRH), Venky Iyer (KKR) & Paddikal (RR) are all openers. I'd love to see Axar Patel finish a few matches for DC too.

2. Sarfaraz Khan: Most likely will keep & bat 6 for DC in Pant's absence. Maybe a breakout year in the IPL will finally get him into the Indian team.

3. Rohit and Kohli: Both of them have been poor in the IPL for a few years and a stellar season would help their case for the T20 world cup next year.

4. Left arm pacers: The Indian pace battery is one dimensional, with all of Shami, Siraj, Hardik & Shardul having the propensity to leak runs at the death. Arshdeep (PBKS) has somehow developed a no ball habit, while Khaleel Ahmed (DC) has picked up some pace! Hope both of them go well.

5. Surya: His form has fallen off a cliff and I'm keen to see how he responds.

Who are you guys looking forward to seeing?

Wait... did you just include our trundling Lord Thakur in pace battery?

My only expectation from IPL 2023 is that they do not include players in the ODI WC squad based on their performance in T20s. But doubt it.

The Lord works in mysterious ways that us mortals can't comprehend. Don't believe me? Ask Delhi Capitals. They've had to acquire a Prayer Sponsor after trading the Lord to KKR

It was advertised earlier that IPL 2023 will be telecast in 4K and will also have Dolby Atmos. I could see Atmos, but no where I can see 4K. Under settings, I can see only Auto, Full HD, HD and High. I'm using LG 4K TV with Nvidia Shield TV Pro stb.

I am adding Graeme Swann to my list of terrible commentators!

GT was clinical and everyone contributed.

CSk with this bowling line up can't qualify.

Rashid khan, Gill and Gaikwad were brilliant!

Jiocinema 4k in the end was quite pleasing to watch.

How did you confirm that it was telecast in 4K. Is it mentioned anywhere.

Under settings, I can see only Auto, Full HD, HD and High.

I didn’t watch yesterday’s match or checked the Jio cinema app. But during the FIFA World Cup, they were streaming 4K as a separate stream from HD, so you would get two different tiles for the same match under 4K and HD, and we can choose what we want instead of toggling under settings.

Was a good experience watching Jio Cinema on my laptop, no buffering at all. Infact it was better than Hotstar! Not sure if the audio went off in between or the commentators went all silent.

Unfortunately, the experience of Jio Cinema was horrible when seen on TV. It hung every five seconds forcing me to renew my long-forgotten Tata Sky. For a change, it was so much more pleasing to see cricket on Star sports. No headache of buffering, no requirement of Wifi. Just like the good old days

Commentary also is much better on Star Sports since there are different sets of commentators now. Chris Gayle on Jio is half the time giggling & laughing!

re: The IPL Thread (Fantasy game league details on pg 238)

With JIO, cricket viewing as such is making a big leap in terms of viewing pleasure. Yesterday there were 5 views from which you could watch the game. Apart from the main camera view, we get to see the stump camera view, birds-eye view, batter view, and hanging camera view. It will get time to get used to but I enjoyed it nonetheless. With the top views, we could see the usual conversations between other players we often miss. It won't be long before we would be able to see 2 types of views on the screen!
