Probably because back circa y2k, infy offered 17+K as starting salary when TCS had about 12 i think. infy was THE company to join. from my college I think there were only 10 selections at that time.

things have changed now, but the perception still remains.

I dont know how many would agree with me.I have always felt PR for Infy was always very very active. Its not the case with TCS.We always had news\quotes from Mr.Murthy\Mr.Nilekani\Mr.Pai etc.Nothing such from TCS side. That also could be a reason.

Yesterday a friend of mine quit from IBM.
If she hadnt they would have terminated her.

Why cos, She (the only one to) raised voice, as to why their team should work 12/6 a week without any benefits.

OffTopic: Blore folks only
If any of your org is hiring HR professionals, please PM me

That means I can never work for Infy in my life?
Check out these intial article that bust the myth.

Outlook made a positive article on Infosys in Jan 2003, in reply they received lots of email from former/current Infosys employees trashing the story. So they further investigated and posted the negative side.

60%? Well I remember 70% also being 10th and 12th cutoff for WIPRO
In CBSE anybody who got in a good engg college had atleast 70% marks, but in many boards like Punjab board, Bihar State board etc., getting 75% meant you were in the top ten in your state.

I remember a batchmate of mine who had studied in punjab board and could not meet 70% cutoff of WIPRO
His college record was brilliant and he was among top 10 in his class.
thankfully that turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he got a much better offer from I2.

Isn't that step a lil extreme ?

TCS went public very recently (2004 if i am right) and that was the reason why it was not in news during the IT boom.

It was during that time, companies like Infy, Wipro and others were in news most of the time for the returns it gave to the share holders and employees (ESOP), which in a big way helped to boost its image.

Though the things have changed now, perception remains.

tifosi.

Thanks Samurai for sharing that article!

Was a eye-opener on the internal affairs of Infy!
Surprisingly, Infy still commands a good brand image in the IT market thanks to their visionary management & their PR skills!

Thanks for sharing the find with us! Although I had heard from various aquantices over time about low employee morale at Infy, what was a real eye-opener was the part about them giving bribes to clinch deals. I thought Infy always prided itself about honesty. However, what is to be taken note of is that the article is dated Feb, 2003. I wonder what the situation is now

On a totally different note, how many people (percentage) on team-bhp do you guys think work in BPO's/Customer Support/IT positions in India.

I was just curious.
