Hey,

Am planning a quick road trip to Baroda from Mumbai. Just had a couple of queries:

1. Hows the road? Is it good enough for the sedans or will the Jeep be more apt?

2. What is the approximate distance in time and kms?

3. Whats the best time to leave? Options are either real earlier in the morning (around 3 am) or late evening (about 8ish).

Any other relevant info will be much appreciated. There will be room in the car so if anyone needs to be there next week, you are more than welcome to tag along. Just PM me.

Thanks

GTO

To start off, its a very good road. No need of t Till Surat mostly its like a mini Expressway with nice curves and smooth road. Best time to leave is early morning as the heavy vehicles increase as the day progresses. Its approx. 425 kms from mumbai. It takes around 7-8 hours.

More Info: Well near Vapi there are dozens of Cows and Buffaloes sitting in the middle of the road. Many of them get killed by truck drivers. Do take care as they tend to sit at blind spots by the side of the tall metal dividers!!

the mumbai-ahmedabad road is a drivers delight with winding roads .just floor the accelerator and u can do an avg of 70kph atleast till surat.
425 kms should take about 8 hours with all the pit stops.
dont forget to take ur cam along with u.

Stratos and Speedsatya, Thanks a load for your help. Guess I will leave early morning and plan a 6 - 8 hour journey.

Dude GTO,
I believe u shud be able to finish the journey in bout 8 hours max.Try n leave around 5am,as thats the best time.As Stratos said bout the Vapi stretch, also do not try n overtake from the opposite side of the road. These truckwallahs simply ply a huge wooden stick onto the windshield.I've seen that happen personally.
Apart from that its a pleasurable journey.

Hey pal its a drivers delight for any mumbaiite and once you are out of dahisar its a clear road all the way till abt an hour before surat forgot the name of the place and then upto surat there is some construction work in the final stages and from surat to baroda its clear road again.
One word of advice try gettin outta dahisar by abt 6 as from the octroi the trucks start to pile onto the road from abt 6:30 nd then the road is packed with them manics so its better to get out early have had a personal expirience at 7am wen they had practically blocked the road.
Another word of caution try not to drive around on the deserted highways of gujrat at night as there are too many dacoities taking place off lately and whatever any one says unless and until a majority of the cars are taking a short cut dont take it as the interior roads are bad and fillied with dacoits.A family comming back from their native some time in Jan was robbed of all their luggae, jewellry and cash and got this news from the horses mouth.
Well any ways enjoy your drive and take a sedan as its extreme climates as of now so ull be better off in a closed vehicle and as for good fuel it wont be a problem as the companies have been craking down off lately nd fill up at silvasa at one of the Essar pumps and ull save quiet a bit on fuel.
