:Shockked: here is the article publish on economic times site - 'Super-spike' could lift oil to $200: Goldman- Indicators-Economy-News-The Economic Times. This has come from none other than Goldman Sachs. So folks forget cars start riding bycycles.

If the cost of petrol/diesel is doubled in next year or so what would you all do?

In the Indian context, with inflation being one big worry and generals elections next year or so, I doubt if the government will increase the prices of Petrol/Diesel. So I am presuming that Indian fuel prices will remain stable for the next year or so..

Worst case scenario, the govt could increase the price of Petrol -- since it is "assumed" to be the fuel of people who can afford a price increase :-(

Get those fuel cell powertrains on the road quickly. Or it'll be Doomsday soon.

Presently I'am doing car pooling. In case there is any increase in petrol price, then I have to switch to 2 wheeler from present using 4 wheeler. The 4 wheeler will be joy ride then only with the family. I hope the Govt will not gamble right now as it will have cascading effect on every common man. The fuel price hike will also shoot up the prices of essential commodities/vegetables/fruits and even the snacks/coffee/tea prices in hotels.

Seriously thinking of buying a diesel hatchback. Would have already if they had a swift Zdi !

The government would then have to subsidize my personal travel or be wise and put up public transport infrastructure with the same money.

It has to come.... may be a bit late but it will.
I am already thinking of using a bicycle for short distances, it will help me keep fit, save fuel and will be my contribution towards the cause of global warming. Its about time we start thinking about the alternate sources of energy.... in India I feel we have not been doing enough... infact we havent dont anything at all. Even the nuclear deals is almost dead now.

cycling is good! I am a massive fan of cycling, but too scared to use one now.
there is always going to be some one willing to spend money on fuel and try to kill you while you're cycling and trying to save the planet.

I used to commute by cycle in london- 14kms a day.
i used to cycle 30kms a day before i went to the UK in 2002

now, too scared to even walk on the road side. I've seen too many cyclists and pedestrians die to risk my life.

So i voted to spend more on fuel.

I agree with you on this... that is why I said shorter distances for which I now use my bike.

I wonder why using public transport hasn't been given as an option.
I'd shift to public transport, in fact have already done so partially!

Start using solar power machines!:D

I wouldnt mind public transport if there were more volvo/tata air conditioned buses. Car pool seems to be the option for me till public transport options improve.

If oil reaches 200$ a barrel, will probably start waking up early and going
via company shuttle :)

At $3.47 this morning, its a scary sight to look at gas stations. I commute 18 miles a day,so its not that bad.My wife does 80,and thats where we take a hit. Both cars average 30-32mpg,and my bike gives me aroung 50-55mpg.

Bad weather= bike sitting the garage. Need to give my car some rest!
