Honda City For Sale

I had seen a HONDA CITY 1.3, 1999 model, SINGLE OWNER, LIFE TIME TAX, C.Insurance, 48K Mileage, I owner, EMREALD GREEN COLOR for sale at Chennai. The final price would be between 3.1 lakhs to 3.2 lakhs.

Is this price okay?

Iam worried about the mileage as I was under the impression the car starts giving problems after 50K mileage. Hence I looked for below 40k mileage. But difficult to find one.

Also Iam worried how much this car would fetch me after 3 years reasonable use (may be 10000 kilometres per year)

Can you please clarify me on the above aspects as I need to take a decision tomorrow.

Based on your inputs, I will decide whether to go ahead with this purchase or wait for low mileage cars (my budget is 4 Lakhs)

Isn't the 99 model the City type 1 with the unclear head lamps? 48K kms in 6 years means that the car hasn't been driven too much, around 8K kms per year.

In what way? Can you be more specific?

My car has done 47K now and the only mechanical problem i've had so far is the power steering fluid leak.

Things like clutch plate wear, brake wear, tyre wear are common with all cars. Those things are bound to happen as the miles get added to the odo.

Now comming to the price. I feel it's just about ok. When we sold our 6 year old 95 Carb Zen in 2001, we got 2.5 lakhs for it. now the City 1.3 is obviously more expensive than a carb Zen, so based on that, 3.1 sounds like a good deal.

In simple words,Drop the Deal.
Its expensive.It shud'nt cost more than 2.5 max.Infact u wud get a 2000 1.5exi for around 3.25.

Wait and look around a bit. There are better deals.

I dropped the deal.

1. The insurance is due for renewal in a day (which will cost Rs.10000/-)

2. The A/c is not effective and requires complete servicing and recharging (which will cost Rs.2500)

3. The car is with original set of tyres manufactured in 1998 November. The tyre needs replacement in another 5000 kms (which will cost Rs.10,000/-)

4. Scrathes in the car on the bumber and the sides & needs touch up (which will cost Rs.7500/-)

Other than this the car is in very good condition, perfectly maintained. The deal was initiated by TVS (Chennai) from 3.25 lakhs. Considering all the above facts, I had offered the final price of Rs.2.75 lakhs.

We left the place with a hand shake.

It has become a challenge to grab a good deal & time is the only answer.

Yup, these are the 2 biggest factors you need to take of before you buy a car.

Hope you get a better deal next time.
