Mh04- Ay - 8920

OK here goes finally. - Will post a real long term review seperately:

Safari TCIC
MH04 - AY - 8920
With me since new - in Aug 2001 - In the 9th year now.

Kms: 1,55,500

Expenses a lot - but less than the Laura. - Details in the seperate long term review thread. But the expenses are low compared to what they have been through.

Tyres: 4th Set of new tyres - Used Bridgestone tubed and tubeless Duellers earlier - good life - 50k each set, currently on Michellin LTX AT - softer, and quiter on the road.

Alloys: Hulk 15" J6.5 from Neo

Front bull Guard since day 1.

Improvements:

Latest Safari Door Handles,
Latest Safari Rear Lights,

Gizmos:
Blue tooth - Jabra SP500 earlier (stolen in small garage) and now Jabra SP700.

JVC DVD Player.

Art Leather Seats - Stiched in. 4th set in 9 years - I am mad.

Leather Stearing and Gear Knob.

Lots of pastic parts replaced with the newer ones.

8 sensor - Parking sensor system with Screen- two in the front are useless due to the bull guard.

Mercedised you would see in the snaps of my vehicle the suggestions I had put forth for you:

1) Front Fog Lights Hella - Yep they could be fitted better.
2) Rear Tail Lights of the new version.
3) Side Step from the new Safari.
4) Alloys from Neo - Hulk - better designs are available but these are among the best in 15" J6.5 versions.
5) Michelin LTX - AT tyres - Yokos are as good.
6) New Safari Door Handles.

What a car!!
Your car looks like it has just come out of the showroom.10\10 for you.
I would like to do the mods you have told on my next service.
Can you please tell me the cost of theose mods you have carried out.
I too have Michelin Tubeless in front but rear tyres are still stock ones.
How much Hella costed and what about using Pencil beam Hella's in place of Fog lamp Hella's.
I have seen some interioi pictures of your Safari in your garage and there are some computer thingis i saw what are they.
One more ques:: How much did the bull bar costed to you.

Some more snaps:

Mercediesed The computer like screen on the Dash is the reverse parking guide senor screen that shows the distance to objects in the front and back.

The Hella Fogs were about 3-4 K in 2006 - the pencil beams (to me atleast) seem to be more for for show than go. Just go with the fogs that you find in the market closest to you.

Actually my vehicle is due for a full paint job soon - the photos hide the flaws that I can see all to well.

The bull guard was about 4-5K in 2001 so dont have any idea now - but it sure has lasted.

@ACM:

That is a very well kept car for a 2001 model. Despite the power shortcomings, I still feel that the older 2.0 Liter IDI engine is an excellent engine and much cheaper to maintain than the new VVTI with all the electronics in it. I wish they had just gone for a 2.5 liter 110+ bhp engine right from the beginning like Mahindra rather than sell their flagship product with a 90bhp engine.

But, in our TCIC's the High beam is Pencil beam light and i find it very much luminative when compared to cars with single bulb for hi/lo.
BTW: can you tell me the exact engine oil capacity of Safari??

Mercedised the Engine oil capacity of the Safari TCIC is 7.5L

This is a bit OT for this thread so let stick to the looks and customization while on this thread.

And Yep the TCIC Pencil Beam is a definately a big help - Infact the fortuner launched now and the new Manza both have double barrels that the Safari had till the rules about the beam hight adjustment made them dump one of the barrels. (Pen Beam) They should introduce it in the new safari.

Before and After

My SAFARI completes 1 year of ownership with me this December.
Thought I'll post some before and after pictures.
Don't know about the SAFARI, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the ownership experience and it continues to grow on me everyday.

I've truly and surely 'RECLAIMED MY LIFE'

1. The first one is January 1st 2009, a day after I bought it
2. The second one is the most recent one. Note the missing bonnet scoop and addition of alloys
3. The rear when I bought it. (Yes it came with the new tail lights)
4. The rear after I picked up a DICOR spare wheel cover (1100 bucks in the flea market, very lucky bit was being able to get a black cover)
5. The side veiw, again on 1st January 2009
6. The most recent side view. Note the removal of front glass sun screen film. It helps in night driving in the city, and more importantly gives it the 'FBI Vehicle' look
7. My favourite angle of the SAFARI, albeit with the old look
8. My prized possesions, OEM alloys and brand new GEOLANDARS
9. The last one being on its longest trip under my ownership :- Bangalore - Coorg - Bangalore

Upgrades planned for this year
- Removal of the dent on the front left fender (It came with this birth mark)
- 2.2 SAFARI side steps
- Beige art leather seat covers
- 2.2 rear spoiler
- 2.2 rear bumper
- Better fog lamps
- Maybe HELLAS, but I want to be a very responsible driver at night, and also not interfere with the breathing of the vehicle.

TheArun

Well maintained pocession, the rear wheel cover indeed improved the looks significantly, this one must be even older than mine with the older thiner cladding on the doors.

Suggest you upgrade the claddings (about 7K) and the side step (about 4K) to the new ones.
