Two from the recent trip.

This is where I am happy about the choice of color - the photos do not show how much actual dirt was there on the vehicle!

Hi Sagar,

2.2L can do 160kmph but 3L cannot unless its coming down the hill with strong wind supporting in the same direction :-)

I guess I was told that the 3L is restricted to 147-150 top speed....probably the wind was supporting and I could do 155 but it simply denied going above that..the rpm was increasing, engine roar increased, wind noise increase but speed did not :-) and soon after that a guy wanted to cross the road and he did not seem to be in any hurry and I had to break....

body roll....it was rock solid at 155...i feel much higher body roll at low speeds :-)

Breaking was not at its best but strong enough....

My 3L Dicor (now sold) used to do bombay-pune expressway runs at a constant 160 effortlessly. Have gone beyond that as well. However, thinking retrospectively, i was a fool to go so fast in a 2 ton monster.

I too agree with what Gowda79, rajismine and richie4u have said. I too easily reached 160 at our August 2009 2.2 LX, and it was raring to go even further! But, I didn't venture beyond, and it was at around rpm 3800, not 2600! This may be the difference between 2.2 and 3.0?

And it was perfectly alright from body roll, stability, comfort point of views, but, at the same time, normally, that is NOT a safe speed for Safari. Like richie said, if you had to brake very hard (some emergency - a common sight on Indian highway conditions), you could be in trouble. Hence, I normally keep it max at 140, that too on superb 4-lane NH/Expressway when we have a clear view of one-way road ahead with less traffic. Otherwise, 120-125 is the max. Besides the safety, putting pressure on engine also is something that deters me from pushing it beyond that.

More details coming up when (Early Sept) I'd roll out my ownership thread for this still most popular SUV in Indian conditions.

I have tested ABS equipped safari, and the difference was tremendous.
I suggest you take a test drive and do some runs at 90kmph with medium hard braking. If you are satisfied, you can go for it.
I second you totally. A couple of days back on the expessway in gurgaon, i gad to slam the brakes in the middle of an overtaking maneuver, thanks to a gentleman deciding to open the passenger side door in a running car to get rid of a mouthful of i-dont-know-what, and the safari skidded, and when i finally stopped, i was, though safely on the road, but perpendicular to it, facing the safety rails. ABS is a must.

new chrome grill

Anyone with a picture of the new chrome grill on the BS4 version? Looked real smart in the new advertisement, which incidentally had the mineral red safari in it!

Tanveer,

Boy.. What a compilation it is. Just no words to explain. This is worth being on the media and by far better than any of the commercials running... Its such a joy to watch it. My compliments to you for taking time, efforts and pains to take these pictures during the adverse conditions and for sharing with us.

Safari rocks.

All the best.

rgds,
Manjunath
