Deep, the 4WD CRDe is till available. There is a waiting period of 2 to 3 months.
Yes, I am a satisfied owner of one. Reliability has been impeccable so far (17300 kms), but I have done a lot of mountain touring, including Ladakh.
No problems of any sort and nothing needed to be attended to after each trip. Only routine services so far. No niggles other than a minor rattle from the tailgate in the early days, and it has stayed OK even after all the mountain trips.

If you plan on touring in the hills or deserts, go for the 4WD.
Otherwise, the mHawk will be perfect.

It would be really good to see a few Scorpio 4x4 reviews here..!
Not much seems to have been written about the 4x4 Scorpio on this forum.

Sir, I have always desired for a 4x4 but after TDing both CRDe & mHawk (which is MUCH improved over CRDe), I am not able to decide. May be I'll wait for mHawk 4x4.

Cheers!!!

Nothing in the manual about warranty, however they warn against using 4x4 on tarmac.
Tata manages by telling dealers to try to force people not go get 4x4. After dealer forcing, most "non serious" 4x4 buyers buy a 4x2, and the ones who still get 4x4 know when to use it.

Moreover if jeep drivers can have enough sense not to engage 4x4 on tarmac, I wonder how difficult it is for scorpio/safari drivers to do the same?

Think about this folks: Using 4X4 on tarmac does cause damage to drivetrains, but that is over longish distances of non-slip. Throughout our country we are blessed with potholes/bumps/loose-gravel on our roads. Before stresses can build up to destruction levels in a drivetrain, there comes a bump/pothole that allows SLIP and relieves the stresses!
The chances of serious tragedy are appreciably reduced!

Raj, nice pics. I liked the ones on the empty airstrip/road.

The C pillar blackening using the stickers didnt come out well. Please get them redone. The white paint can be seen when viewed from behind.

Hai Raj Lovely Pictures on the air strip.

Your night picture on the airstrip when it's dark, reminded me of this pictures, Midnight Shyamalan's flick, "Signs"

thanks buddy. the sticker/vinyl had to be cut that way because it was difficult to paste the vinyl there because of the close fitting 3rd window. anyways, as you said, it looks a bit odd and i am thinking of redoing it.

@ anup: that was my sole intention anup saab! infact, the locations we went too had quite rough, uneven and narrow roads (which were not actually roads!), the types SUVs are built for (though not hardcore offroading!) and i had even planned to take some pics of the route on our return trip but it was too late then and very dark. (there were no lights except the scorpio's!)
