Re: Do you play the stock market

I've been doing SIP's since 2008. Now I'm considering trading on my own also, but do not know much about the market. Just wanted to know how to decide on which company to invest in. Can someone give me some tips? Like which website to do my research on, and stuff like that. Right now I'm using sifyfinance and my iPhone to follow prices.

I was thinking the pharmaceutical sector might be a good buy. I have shortlisted a few pharmaceutical companies -
Astrazeneca Pharma
Sterling Biotech Ltd.
Aurobindo Pharma
Dabur Pharma Ltd.
Wockhardt Ltd.
Glaxosmith
Zandu
TTK
Ranbaxy

Apart from these, I'm also considering SBI (in a few months though, as I expect prices to fall), Dalmia Cements and ONGC. What are your thoughts on these?

Also, does anyone have experience with HSBC investdirect? I think it was earlier ILFS, and has been renamed after HSBC tookover. I'm looking at opening a demat account with them, simply because all my banking is done ONLY through HSBC. I do not have any other bank account, and opening a new account in India might be a bit of a problem for me.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Rg chn
Hi
Look into the charges levied by hsbc and others like hdfc and sbi and then decide.
Moneycontrol gives good details but dont follow the people blindly.A claasic example :yestedays economic times wrote about zylog systems being a good investment. The first thing I saw on the tv today that it was down by 20%(now it is down by 10%.As i dont have it in my portfolio I have no idea as to the reason). Stick to large cap blue chips like TCS, Infy,SBI,RIL M&M etc and hope for the best(can you imagine India without them)
Pharma,IT, FMCG and to some extent cement are good bets at this point of time. What happens tomorrow is anybodys guess.
Amongst the above stocks you mentioned I prefer Ranbaxy as Daiichi Sankyo paid rs 737 to buy out the earlier promoters.
Hope this helps
Regards

Re: Do you play the stock market

Just a few minutes back, my order for 100 IOB @ 92 each was executed successfully. IOB returns a dividend yield of 5.46% at CMP.

ONGC, Tata Power, BHEL, Coal India and OIL are all good. The dividend yields from ONGC and Coal India are around 7% and 3% respectively at CMP. But, why buy them after market, I suggest you buy them at the next dip, which will be many I suppose! BTW, I am 57 and mine is also for long term investment.

Hi
I am 67 years old and I look for scrips more on the basis of VFM.
Bought Tata Global on 3rd aug at 105.45(cum rs2 dividend)(index 17900) and today it is down 20% wheras the index is down approximately by 12%.So it has underperformed by a wide margin.
It is a good scrip and a good value buy today. What happens tomorrow is anybodys guess.
I added on 31 oct at 91.93(index 17741)
Reg Hindusthan Petroleum too much govt interference
Reg Tata power it was down after their quarterly result I missed out what the anchors said so i have no idea(a few years back it used to form a part of my portfolio)
As i have mentioned in my earlier post stick to blue chips like ITC,SBI,TCS,M&M,Reliance etc.,what happens tomorrow que sera sera
Hope this helps

Re: Do you play the stock market

Most of the FMCG stocks are over performing the market. These are good investments at the moment.

Stocks like Nestle, Hind Lever, Dabur which had appreciated substantially earlier haven't fallen drastically in the last dip.
