Re: Do you play the stock market

Sudev, there was lot of discussion on CCL here. It is CCL Products India Ltd, makes instant coffee for the global market. You can refer my posts for more details.

Igarashi had a ownership change yet again. Igarashi Japan has bought stake. They might try to delist. Also there is expectation that Igarashi Japan might now make this their manufacturing hub and more orders might flow in.

Its amazing how many of these small gems have performed in the last 6 months - Igarashi, CCL, Avanti, Zen, Tasty Bite, Bharat Rasayan. But some of these have valuations which make me jittery.

What happens to my money if they de-list?

Re: Do you play the stock market

The results were good too. Yesterday's announcement is here.

http://www.bseindia.com/corporates/a...7-0f446c42c331

There will be an open offer now. At 53% stake they won't be able to delist I think. Won't get enough number of shares.

Hi
Great to have you back on the thread.
Look forward to your posts.
Regarding the delisting query. If you dont have investor friendly promoters you may lose. I lost out in Nirma. HDFC delivered my shares without informing me and 3/4 days later money was credited.
This amounts to a criminal breach of trust by an agent. Also impugns on my right to property. Plus the money was not kept in an escrow account.
If I had filed a case I am sure I would have won it and, maybe after 20 years got a compensation of rs 20000. Wasnt worth the effort.
You would remember the case of Cadbury. AFAIR the issue is still not sorted out after 17 years.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hi Faustus,

Yes agree with you, it is quite tricky these delisting programs. So you tendered your shares in the open offer and they did not accept it? In Igarashi's case though promoter stake is only 53%, the MD who does not fall under promoter, has 30% stake. So if he joins with the promoters they would have 80%. But why would he give up his stake so easily? He is the one who grew this to company to current levels. The FY15 annual report is quite optimistic compared to previous ones. Let them make the open offer, will see that time.

Latheesh,

The concall is available in researchbytes. If the merger with the pvt firm does not happen, I will be disappointed. Unlike last year, he talks about listing the pvt fim now. The US entity is a 50-50 JV by both the companies.

I have no idea on the probability of merger now. That's not a good situation to be.

Cheers

Vindy

So, HDFC gave you just the amount you invested? Or did they give you the market value?

Hi
I had bought it around rs 315 and when Nirma wanted to delist they offered rs 255.I was sure that it was intrinsically worth more than rs 255. So I didnt submit my delivery instruction slip to HDFC and so didnt subscribe to their open offer.
One fine day got a credit intimation from Union bank a/c .On checking found it was from Nirma so called the company secretary,HDFC and the registrars. They all bumbled through explanations without any substance.
Maybe in a few years they will come back to the capital and offer their share to the public and at a much higher price and hog all the goodwill and the brand value of Nirma.
Hope that maybe at some point of time in future the interests of the minority share holders are protected.
Regards

3. KNR - bought around 300. Now, 330

Hope the run-up continues in the coming months/ years
Just taking stock of investments made in mid-Dec last year. All of them up 60 to 80% in 8 months. Still remain bullish over the next 2-3 years.
1. JKumar - Currently 750
2. MBL Infra - About 560 (actually, 280 after 1:1 bonus)
3. KNR - Around 560

The Govt continues to push road/ infra development - and I expect each of these small caps to continue to do well, though short-term volatility is only to be expected.

Hi everyone,
Im a final year engineering student, considering investing in the stock markets. Since, I have always been provided helpful advice from the members of the forum, I would like to ask the experienced players of stock market, how should I make a beginning in this regard. Books, Online sources or any other practice that you would like to recommend for a newbie into the stock market.
Also, which would be the best newspaper for a beginner ?

Re: Do you play the stock market

Hi Arjun,

Great to see your interest in stocks at this age. I wish I had thought like you when I was in early 20s

Would be great if you could read the old posts (1.5 years back) in this thread. Many of us had given valuable info on books, websites etc. I would suggest you read Pat Dorsey's "The five rules for successful stock investing" and "One upon wall street" by Peter Lynch. Try to make your own framework for stock analysis using what you learned from these.

Post this do analysis of businesses you understand easily. Take up a company called Infoedge for example. This might appeal to you as it is into e-commerce (they own 99Acres, Naukri and Jeevan Sathi and has 51% stake in Zomato). Read atleast last 10 years annual reports and listen to their interviews and conference calls (available on researchbytes).

Do the analysis with a single minded focus to understand the business well. What drives the sales? What is the demand and supply situation for this business? Who are the competitors and what is the competitive intensity? What is the opportunity size for this business? Does the company have an edge over peers and can it sustain this edge? Are you able to read the mind of the promoter, his vision, ethics and passion?

All the best

Vindy

Re: Do you play the stock market

Dear members,

A question for the regular investors or traders (the ones who have a regular job and also dabble in stocks).

You will be making many buys and sells throughout the financial year with profits or losses. After the financial year is over, how do you consolidate your profits/losses and calculate the income tax to be paid? Do you club it with your office filing or do you file it separately?

Does your broker give you something like a consolidated report of transactions with a grand total of net profit/loss at the end of the financial year, and which you just attach for your tax submission?

Because as I see it, if you have to keep track of your every buy/sell in a stock, it will be very cumbersome to track, especially if you trade frequently (maybe running into hunderds of transactions in a financial year).

Or do you take the electronic contract note for every buy/sell in a stock and work out manually? Then won't this become a paper mountain? Of course, I understand this can be outsourced to an auditor.

Sorry if the question is silly. Like the bank thief who pleads to Harry Callahan in the the movie Dirty Harry, "Hey! I gots to know!"

Thanks.

murillo.

I use moneycontrol.com's portfolio builder for this. As you keep selling stocks, it automatically saves the details in the capital gains section. At the end of the year I transfer this list to excel from the website and I have all the details ready. Of course, you have to manually input every purchase & sale transaction on the website but I find this method far less cumbersome & more importantly, less confusing then having to sit at the end of the year and make a list from every contract note.
