Re: Do you play the stock market

Crazy opening for D-Mart.

Applied in four lots; got two.

I'm bound by my employer so can't sell one lot for a week; but will be in it for the longish-term.

+1. No margin of safety at these levels. Better to book the profit and re-enter at lower levels.

SIP is always the best route for mutual fund investments. Maybe occasional lump-sum is also ok. But SIP should be your main route.
Your MF related posts may find better traction in the Mutual Funds thread (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shifti...ds-thread.html)
Good luck.

Re: Do you play the stock market

The Dmart scrip broke all records I guess. 100% returns on day 1. Kind of Sultan of Stock market. Had applied for 11 lots (=2L) and got none. Bawwaaaah.

My office colleague who had bid for 11 lots got 400 shares allotted to him. He was last seen walking 4 inches above ground.

Thats one hell of a lucky chap walking around in your office. He's probably got himself a record allotment per person (for a retail investor) for a record listing returns in the history of IPO market.

Did he apply through eleven different applications or in a single application?

As I understood in oversubscribed IPO's like this, a retailer cannot get more than one lot per application (50 shares in case of D Mart), as per SEBI rules.

He had applied through one application only. His allotment actually defied the logic of allotment and made it look more like a lottery.

As there are four times more applications than possible to allot, so only one in four applications will be allotted and it will be done through lottery. This automatically means everyone will be allotted one lot per application, as per the SEBI rule.

If someone got more than one lot in one application, then it could mean either
The registrar (Linkintime) violated rules.
Or your friend is bluffing.

If I understood correctly, the actual IPO size is just 45 crores (fresh issue), rest 300 odd crores is an offer for sale of shares held by promoter & trustee.
The business model may be a good long term bet, but promoter offloading shares does not appear, to me, as very confidence inspiring.
The stock may list 15-20% higher on list day. Maybe operators may take it much higher, but looking things as they are, my personal preference is to give this issue a pass.

Re: CL educate, you are absolutely spot on. Again operators may make the play here, but we should give it a pass.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Now that one of the scrips (Everonn Edu) I was holding has gone kaput. I'm worried about other bad shares I'm holding. I have been holding on to these for long. Not sure if I should sell some of these or buy more to average the price. The following are avg. price at what I'm holding these shares. Any advice on these would be welcome as I don't follow the stock market anymore.
  • Aban Offshore Rs.1,000.00
  • GMR Rs.200.00
  • IDBI Bank Rs.120.00
  • Jyoti Structure Rs.160.00
  • NHPC Rs.30.10
  • Punj Lloyd Rs.88.00
  • Reliance Comm Rs.170.00
  • Suzlon Rs.62.00

Re: Do you play the stock market

HI friends, I currently do invest in stocks but its mostly based on tips and suggestions of broker and friends. I would like to learn how to study stocks, etc. Does anyone know of any such classes or anything like that in Mumbai where i can learn it? Aim is not to do intraday trading, but to ensure I earn good returns in medium to long term on idle cash.

Re: Do you play the stock market

Today, I booked partial profit in SKFINDIA by selling 10 @ ₹ 1,550, 10 @ ₹ 1,570 and 10 more @ ₹ 1,579.20. I bought these shares in 2006 at an average price of ₹ 305.25. I still have 70 more shares, which I would sell in the coming days.
