I was watching "the Hitcher" when the jolt hit. Was around 12.45. My sofa jolted as if butted by a bull. Nearly jumped outta my skin! Then the glasses in the cabinet, along with my TV rattled; not so much as I was though! Was sober for once, so am damn sure about the quake.

normally aftershocks are smaller, but still, at the first instance of a quake, you should try to get out in open air and wait for a few minutes, even after shocks can bring a building down if already damaged by the first quake.

well, you never know what happens later, but i guess this is the least precaution you can take.

if you are in a level where you can't get out immediately, look for spots that will form a cavity if the building crashes, like a corner protected by a furniture. imagine the place after the crash and try to visualize where there will be triangular spaces, that's where you can save your lives.

you get 1-5 seconds if the first quake really hits it hard, try to make the best use of it.

directly under the furniture is not always the best option, it's debated recently. staying with it has better chances of survival.

Yes even though it doesn't really seem like it, they might be on the same planet.

The epicentre was located in the Koyna -Warna area which every year reports tremors during the monsoon and post monsoon times when the reservoir/dam is filling up. Satara and Pune being nearer feel the tremors when above 2.5 or 3 M.

Was there an earthquake in pune at 320 AM?

Hey All,

Felt my bed shaking now at 320AM.
Got up, woke my laptop from standby mode and writing...

Was that a bad dream or was it an earthquake?

Felt similar vibrations at 8 PM at hinjewadi while sitting in the bus (bus had not yet started)...

I think both of them have the same thing in common "Was that an earthquake?"

PS: is there any leg or two from Mr. Ganesh??? a similar thing happened, i think it was in 1994.

Heavy rains of the past 2-3 days must have built up pressure in the Koyna dam. Epicentre near Satara, 4.8 on the Richter scale.
