Team-BHP - Relocating overseas

Can we use this thread as a sort of guide for those who are relocating to some other country?

1) What points you keep in mind while choosing your luggage bags? What brands are the most trusted? Which ones are best to be kept away from?

2) How do you decide what all to actually carry with you and what not to (given the strict baggage limits i.e. 23kgs per bag in most cases)?

3) How do you search for appropriate international flights? Best time to buy tickets? (The Yeti's domestic air travel thread will be helpful here, I'm sure)

4) How many of you regularly pay excess baggage fee and see any loop holes in the system? Has anyone tried taking benefit of loopholes where migrant visa holders are allowed a much higher baggage limit on their first outbound trip? Something like at the bottom of this link.
