Bangalore Commute Data

Am trying to compile some data about commute profiles in Bangalore. This got sparked off from a discussion about promoting cycling - and I thought it would be nice to have the overall picture anyhow. Of course the data will be skewed towards certain sections of the society (internet enabled, upwardly mobile, affluent) but then there's got to be some starting point

Please take this survey and pass it on to friends. Will share data once a decent number of people have taken the survey.

A whooping 57 percent use personal transport - car or two wheelers. Can you add one more question for this class - "What will make you switch over to public transport (Bus / taxi)?" Make the response open ended (Ie. give a text box for respondent's reply).

14.7% cycles to work in Bangalore amongst your survey sample! I would not believe it. Once one of my colleagues came to office on a cycle and that was news for in-house magazine.

Yeah, true - the first round of people I asked to take the survey was from a cycling community I'm still waiting for the numbers to hit 200 so the sample's less skewed.

You should then keep the cycling community out to get the real picture. But in reality it is very difficult to get people to respond to such surveys unless there is some reward!

Well, the hope it the numbers will grow and make it somewhat balanced - and even in the 76 respondents so far its not that bad. Cars+2 wheelers are quite the largest group. And across people, commute distances have a similar pattern.
I'll hold out hope - 75+ already, a few more and its a good start.
