There is no point saying how good are these! Is it? Not being able to put in that much time but yes have been able to travel over and had some chance for some macro shots.

Hi nilanjanray,

Some great insights. Thanks. This thread does not have a thanking option hence this post.

Mods may delete this post, but had to post. Surely helps a lot for newbies like me to listen to such critical analysis. Will try to inculcate these when I shoot next time.

Thanks Amp. I just got a 85 f/1.4 [MF only] and suddenly it has become my favourite glass. Wonderful bokeh and colours. When you nail the focus @f/1.4, the image is unrealistically beautiful. Will post one or two soon.

Lovely Colors.
Can you please try 2 options on this pic:
1. Crop from the bottom to have the rock bench in the bottom 1/3rd, the water in the center and sky at the top 1/3rd
2. Remove everything and just crop on the floating leaf at the top (A bright red leaf against the rich blue sky!) In my view, that leaf is a story in itself. Tells us about fall, about the crisp morning sky, probably a little chill in the air

Thanks and great suggestions! First one I should have followed in the field, but I thought the natural line of fallen leaves leading to the bench would be enough. But now that you've mentioned it, putting the bench at the 1/3rd spot would have reinforced that line.
For the second one, I am afraid I can't crop that much, given that this is a lowly Iphone6 image. But would have loved to have a fast lens and good camera to execute this.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

A glimpse between two trees. Evening, high ISO shot. Was going out of the national park when gods decided to be kind at the last moment. Had to perform precarious balancing acts to get a clear shot. The opening would have been a few inches wide.

There is an interesting story re this tiger sighting, but that is for a travelogue :-)

Had gone to Bannerghata Biological Park for some practice before a wildlife trip.

Portrait of an Indian wolf. Captive. Shot through the fence using a little bit of manual focus.

Nice angle to shoot birds catching prey. Looks like the water is more in focus than the birds head. Its hard to get the focus right on these shots especially when the distance is this far. Did you use servo AF and H drive mode?

Sorry, was posting from my mobile. The app is still buggy.

Decided to carry a D500 instead of a D810 for a trip to Dudhwa National Park. Reasons: just after the monsoons, animals will still be wary of humans and vehicle movement, and will stay away. So increased reach and better AF (for shooting through tall elephant grass and undergrowth) will be important. So was practicing a bit at the local zoo.

All shots taken through the fence, using a mix of AF and manual focus.

Edit: my images are less sharp when I view them through a browser (Chrome) on Team BHP. Don't know what the bug is.
