For most of the people who shoot for B&W it's about visualization of that scene in different layers of different tones/contrasts. For me B&W is an after thought most of the time i.e. I decide only when I'm converting the photograph. mostly a photograph with nice contrast and good lighting will become a nice B&W too, basically the same concept of a good photograph but in B&W [ I told you, I'm not the right person]. Rudra Sir, help!!!

Ha ha dude, I actually missed IS that day on my lens (I was using 17-40mm). This was shot at ISO400 1/25 at the widest aperture i.e. f4. Probably one of the best sunset views I've ever scene and I was never more frustrated. Next day I was ready with lock, stock and all the smoking lens barrels but alas, as they say, a moment passed is never gonna be there again. This is what I got next day,

ROFL, man that was hilarious.
I envy the colors too, need to learn that from you. A meetup is due the next time I am in town.

LOL Shaju, your replies always crack me up .

<Sarcasm begin> "Haters gonna hate". All of the following have been shot with a Panasonic G1. For the un-initiated ones it's a camera made by Panasonic with a puny sensor (half the full frame, so imagine how small it is and how low the DR is) and without any advantage over the DSLRs at all. But I am a happy customer and here's me presenting some frames that I could process today. </End Sarcasm> (Ha ha, I need to copy right those html tags).

For the rest who don't really care, here are some photographs, hope you enjoy viewing them. A lot of the weekend photographs are yet to be processed, will keep uploading the photos here over the next few days.

This was shot at Long Branch Museum, VA. What a day it was, lots of wine tasting and beautiful weather. Such days make up wonderful memories for life. It was shot with a Panasonic G1 + Asahi Pentax SMC 50mm f1.4.

Next up is at the same location, but with a different lens and was actually testing it out. The lens used is the "Lester Dine 105mm f2.8" macro lens. This lens was originally made for dentists for their high magnification work, but it ended up being a "cult lens" and is mainly known for its sharpness and contrast. I am in love with this lens.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Lovely photographs there Rudra. Just awesome.

And inspired by Rudra's photographs I also tried my hand in B&W processing. please do let me know (Rudra Sir and all) how do they look. Took me almost 4 hours to complete these pics. I know there is lot left to be desired, but this is my first serious attempt for Monochrome conversion(I tried before also but never got anything satisfying),

Lovely pictures Rudra Sir. The weather and those barren mountains look truly dramatic.

Lovely feel there Kaushik in both the captures. I missed Pangong Tso both the times because of bad weather.

Haha, sometimes u gotta surface for some air right? I loved it that they posed looking at the same direction for me, it established the much needed diagonal in my composition...

@Rudra
Welcome back Rudra. Excellent shots as always!

Thanks a lot Rudra Sir, that means a lot to me. I was really lucky to get good skies in both of my trips there. But this time got very cloudy weather at Nubra, kind of flat lighting most of the time when we were there.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Since last year I have become extremely lazy about developing my images. I often shoot, but don't bother processing the raw file. The Goa shots and the following shot were taken more than a year back. Processing only today after getting some inspiration from shots in the last couple pages.

Bangalore skyline...
