A bit too shallow DOF, otherwise nice!

I also able to sell few photos on macrostock photo website fotolia and dreamstime but they pay in macro, so stopped uploading.
500px is amazing when it comes to viewership. My photo is just getting 1800 views in less than 24 hours. They take 2.99$ per HD download, but the price they want for a print is crazy, $168. So I am having the opinion that big sales won't happen through such a site.. Yes I have enabled market but I do not expect any sales

^So, 500px.com is the same funda as flickr? Make friends and comment on each other? Btw, I don't see groups there. How do you get views?

No, 500px runs on a different pattern altogether. You upload an image, it has a much much better logic to quickly surface the good photos out of thousands of uploads happening. Similar way, the duration a photo stays on top is also based on a better way of interpreting positive and negative votes. Once your photo is in popular pages, viewership is guaranteed. Thankfully, there is no concept of 'Groups' in there. But you can classify your photos into some given categories, users can view and search based on that as well.

When I uploaded that image, I got more than 10 views and few votes already before I even finished editing my tags and other data - because it already appeared in the 'flow'. First vote makes a score of 27, second vote shoots it up to 52, and third to 64, then each vote start counting less. like 69, 74, 76 etc. It requires more number of votes to bring your score from 98 to 99 than it takes it to bring from 80 to 90. It is like the opposite of an exponential growth. In a similar way, one negative vote itself counts and takes you down few pages in the popular section. All people can't vote negative because it requires you to have certain number of affection points which 500px is not ready to reveal. Mine went to a score of 98.9 and then crashed to 86 today morning. So every photo that gets there has a life on its peak. It's not gonna stay there forever. There's an Editor's choice section as well which are supposed to be picked by human editors , Flickr's algorithm seems to be more flat or linear compared to this.

Overall, it is quite interesting to see how quickly good photos get recognized in that system, compared to Flickr's Explore. Though the logic of your photo appearing in Explore is not known, it never works the same way with all good photos.

I still have no clue about what algorithm these sites work on. I used to see most crap coming up on Flickr explore, someone told me how to get images appearing there regularly, but never had any interest to try that. 500px is another place, I had over 10 images with scores above 90 and seen on their front page too, but now all of them stay idle between 80 to 90 marks.

Facebook is another place, you will find 100s of non-stop likes and comments on non-sense images if your ID is feminine. Images can be your nail or your nose or your lips or just your dying tooth brush. World will go on "WOWWW, fantastic, what an image" !!! I go to a lake and sit for 2 hours in a place to get a fantastic sunrise with all the filters and heavy tripods and what not, we will also do our best processing possible before it goes LIVE: Someone will come and say "color is too warm, the angle should have been better. its too cluttered, you should try it with so and so camera, your signature is too big, you should get a life...." and there goes your caste, creed and gender discrimination !! This world is not fair

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Pigeons visit my balcony regularly as we keep a bowl of water for them always. This morning at 8 am I was standing in my balcony and fiddling with my camera when this pigeon landed on the railing and stayed there for some time not bothered by my prescence. I took some pictures. The ruffled feathers are due to the high velocity wind experienced on the 14th floor.

Coming back to this thread after a while. Here's a hi-key image of a Changeable Hawk Eagle that I shot yesterday. Will have a mini photologue posted from this trip to Bandipur with my daughter.

How about something semi-professional, like istockphoto.com - check it out too.

I'm AMAZED at how flickr became popular. Honestly i find it painful to look at pictures on flickr, and the navigation is confusing!

And one shot of an amazing natural phenomenon - bio-lumenescence !! The plankton in the water would flash a BRIGHT green whenever there was any movement in the water. This is a 6 second exposure of people splashing around. I don't know why it shows up blue in photos... it was green.

There is a GK Vale near my home in Marathalli , where i have got it done in the past, maybe 3 years back I found them quite expensive as well . Are there any other places you would recommend ?

Shot from the hip: A couple of bird phots (snapshots, literally)

Shot in the evening during a cruise on Cauvery. Cropped photo. Didn't have time to track it properly - turned my head, and there it was - so just turned, lifted and shot (like trap shooting). Happy that it came out ok since I was on a rocking coracle in low light.

Was cruising through Mudumali when I saw this. Had to quickly stop, take out my camera and shoot before it flew away. Shot at 300mm using my 70-300mm lens; cropped. Noticed the insects when I zoomed.
