Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Got a tripod finally. I already had a mini tripod which was good enough for abstract stuff, but needed a proper tripod for group photos, landscapes etc.
The max height achievable is close to 6 feet.

Brand: Sony
Price: 1990/-

Thanks IronH4WK!

Yes its the VCT-R640. With the legs fully extended and the central mounting rod fully pulled out, the maximum height was at my eye-level, that is close to 5 feet and 8 inches. I wonder why the specifications say a maximum height of 1441 mm (~4.7 feet). The tripod has excellent various leveling customizations. The tripod also has a leveling sensor.

What is the rated maximum load carrying capacity? If I m not mistaken it is 3 Kg. Is nt it? I also was looking for tripods and had short listed this one, Benro T880Ex and T600EX. Thats when I happened to visit Croma and found a Tripod CRIA 1056 for 2.2 K. The pack mentions a maximum load carrying capacity of 10 Kgs. Looks pretty sturdy too much more than the BEnro ones. Could nt have a look at Sony though. Bought the croma one immediately.

Anybody in the market for a tripod may have a look at that too.

^^^ Yes. The maximum load carrying capacity is approx 3 KGs. But that serves my purpose as of now, since I have a P&S(HX100 V) on which I cannot add any lenses to add to its weight.

Another shot with the new tripod. That's my baby:

yeah, that's weird! mine says 1465mm (~5ft) and it is ~5ft (measured it with a tape). are you sure nothing has come loose to give you that extra 8inches?

Nope. Nothing is loose for sure. After fully rotating the lever provided to pull out the central mounting rod, this was the height I achieved. "Truth is stranger than the specifications"

Travel North of Dublin and you have a few ghost towns Sligo, Easkey , Newport etc.Beautiful places. Got any shots from the Cliffs of Moher ?

Around Dublin am sure you should have gotten a chance to go around and visit Bray and Howth ? If not make time and pay a visit, you wouldn't be disappointed.
Here you go

Some pictures from our trip to Rajasthan last year. These are from Udaipur. Familiar scenes, but still thought of sharing!

Or perhaps the specifications list the maximum height without the center column extended. It is not advisable to use the tripod with center column extended fully in most conditions as it may reduce the stability of the overall setup.

You may be right. But, if you observe the tripod carefully, there is a special lever to extend the center column and there is also a screw to tighten/lose the rod movement. I have not found it unstable till now, but lets see.
