Yelahanka lake. This was taken a year back.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

This was the first photograph I was very proud of shooting. It was shot using a completely manual Minolta SLR with stock lens, while sitting in a bus travelling at 70kmph on Bellary road, coming back from Nandi Hills in early 1990.

I have no idea which lake, unless somebody can shed some light on it. Must be somewhere around the current airport.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Thanks Samurai. I try and do what I can with my current kit and 'teach yourself from internet and experimentation' approach . Lots to learn...maybe someday I will invest time in learning about PP and take some classes.

Some fantastic photos here in this thread. Question for the pros and semi pros/advanced amateurs: with all the software, accessories such as CPL and techniques/SW for HDR, are folks nowadays less concerned about getting the time or light right? E.g. not having to wake up before sunset to get the perfect natural sky or light for some landscape photo?

Most people think that it is the case, but from my experience nothing can substitute being at the right place at the right time with the right equipment. I used to depend on software a lot for stuff like WB and exposure, but over time I have realized that to be accurate color and exposure I need to do a lot more on the field than I do. To some extent software can "save" your photograph (again, I am not that good at photoshop, so others might have that skill), but it still doesn't come as close to what I had on my mind. Sometimes, you just know that you can't do without managing it all in the post processing like HDR or rather exposure blending, because the dynamic range of a camera is limited. And you should know how to detect a scene rather than trying to employ HDR for every photograph.

As far as the accessories go, they play a big role. In fact, they're not the easy way out . You'll have to build knowledge of knowing what accessory to use for which shot. For example, I used a CPL along with my 2 stop ND filter to cut light and look what happened:

The Official non-auto Image thread-5914050017_dd60f5fec2_z.jpg

I got the result I wanted but also got a vignette only on one side and the reason (am yet to confirm this) is that I shouldn't be using a CPL when I shoot with the light source directly in my frame. I tried to introduce vignette on the other side but failed (again, blame my PP skills).

So, as far as I know from my experience and having seen enough photographs on the internet, everything including your camera is an accessory/tool. Only you can make the photograph with the tools at hand . Don't go by what others say about accessories, HDR, photoshop, lightroom etc.

They like to fight?

I know a dog who has a similar ear - he got attacked by a wild boar.

A few pictures taken with the Nikkor 18-105mm lens. A compromise, but still a decent and light walkaround lens.

A magical morning in the Nilgiri forests.

I can take a safe bet that hotel corridor belongs to Holly Wood hotel, Disneyland Hong Kong and that is HK Disneyland, lovely pics. Had been there last year.
